Colour b4 extra strength review
« on: 24 Oct 10 / 08:04 PM »
Well i finally got around to doing my hair yay! xD
i've never used colour b4 before and i can definatly say.. this stuff is bloody brilliant!
see i wasnt sure at first whether it would work or not because i've never used it, but it litterally took out 100% of my hair colour!

Heres how i went from red to blue step by step =]

1) Equipment

here i have - B4 colour extra strength, pintail comb, gloves, sectioning clips, tint brush and bowl, Directions: Neon blue x2, Atlantic blue, Violet, Turquoise, Alpine green, Apple green, Rose red. Also theres blueblack by smart colour, which i changed my mind about using.

Here is a before picture, my hair was prebleached using 40 vol, and i had Directions Pillabox read on top

For a month i tried removing the colour by scrubbing it everyday with head and shouldiers, as u can see it hasnt done alot lol! =P

2) So onto the b4 colour! i read through the instructions and mixed part A with part B (very simple instructions to follow) my first thought was that it smelt! it smelled like perm lotion! ..which isnt really nice haha, and also it stang my skin a little, like on my scalp and where i spilt a bit on my face. so bare in mind if your gonna use it then dont get it on your skin. Another plus side was that there was LOADS of this stuff, and because it was quite a runny solution it lasted really well, i even chucked some away after i had covered all of my hair twice.

So heres a picture of the solution on my hair after 10 mins, as u can see its lifted alot of the red already (which is an other thing i didnt expect, was that you can WATCH the colour go!)

After 15 mins i noticed that my blonde bits of my hair were slowly turning into a strange shade of green, which worried me a little lol

heres a pic after 20 mins

I then rinsed for 10 minutes with hot water and added step free(buffer) which was like a shampoo, i then left for 2 mins and rinsed, then i shampooed it again with the same stuff

When i towl dried it and brushed it through it was so dry and knotty! >.< i dont know whether that was because of the before colour or because i didnt condition it, but here is what it looked like after i dried it

it was SO blonde! looked really strange, but yeh i checked all through it at 100% of the red had vanished! there wasnt any pinky bits anywhere, i was amazed!

so from there i added my directions colours and it turned out exactly how i wanted it =]
(these pictures are pretty dark because it was getting dark when i took them haha, ill add some better pics tomorrow)

so yeh i rate colour before a 9/10
Pros: Stripped ALL the colour out, worked quickly, non-painful prosess
cons: Stang skin and scalp, turned the blonde a bit green (might of been my hair though) and it STANK!

xD thumbs up!

I notice you have dark roots in one of the after pics, is that the colour of your natural hair?

I was wondering whether I should give it a try as I want to go a little bit lighter, but even if it does work you would have to do the roots seperately right?

Oh right, yeh i forgot to mention that i bleached my roots and some brown patches i missed last time i bleached my hair before i put the

and yeh you'll have to do your roots seperatly, the colour b4 doesnt have poroxide =]

fantastic! i'm planning on stripping my cherry bomb soon using colour b4 and replacing it with fishbowl, and while i realise that results do vary - it's so reassuring to see some actual results. the stench warning is much appreciated!

My hair was purple using Live XXL Mystic Violet which I had been using for months..I put this on my hair and followed intructions perfectly..It came out gingery/orange which annoyed me BUT it has stripped my hair and even though it didnt take me back to my natural blonde it did take the colour out. Also I am abit confused as to where the purple went because it didnt wash out :\

Thank you so much for this review and also for the step by step photos and info - its very helpful.  The maker of colour B4 says it was not designed for semi-perm hair dye so its good to see how it can still remove these type of dyes and the stages it goes through.

Cheers again :)

I had a similar experience when I used it on XXL Live Midnight Blue. I expected to see the dye washing out when I was in the shower but the water was just clear/foamy from the stuff, no black. It's like the colour just vanished, it certainly wasn't left in my hair.
It's a mystery lol.

Anyway this is definitely a great product. Very informative review Gothicle.

Is the equipment in the box such that, if your hair is short, you can use half the mixture and do 2 applications?

Thanks for the review, very thorough :D

Im not sure what you mean VaLukeAraptor?

Well, i think once the solution is mixed, it stops working after 20 mins, so i doubt you could reuse it again

but you could use half and half of each bottle, then reuse the rest at a later date =]
i think tht answers ur question

That stuff is amazing! The blonde it left your hair was a very nice colour as well! I love the final result with the blue and purple too.

I almost want to strip my hair right now just to use it lol, but I'm not quite bored of it just yet.

This is an amazing review! I wasn't going to bother with Colour B4 before but now I've seen this it definately makes me want to give it a go!

And I do love the blonde it left you with as well haha.

I'm a bit confused though because on the product details on the superdrug site it says it's safe to recolour hair after using it but I thought I saw Scott say on his facebook page that it's best to leave it before dying again?

this is just a guess, but i imagine he says that cos most people would be dying perm dye after the b4, and as gothicle said it left her hair a bit dry, so using a perm would possibly damage the hair. where as our 'cool' dye is conditioning and good for the hair, so i think it'd be fine to do so. this  is just what i think though

Hi, welcome to the forum :).
If your searching for this on the US ebay site remember to use the English spelling of colour and not the US way (color) as this may be why nothing is showing up when you try to find it.

Also I have amended your post to lowercase as typing all in capitals is often regarded as shouting and can be harder to read sometimes.

would it work on black??  I really want to go back to red but have been dying my hair black for about a year and worried I'm never going to be able to get rid of it!!  Also don't want to do anything to it that's going to make my hair fall out/damage it etc!!

i think it depends on what dye you've used, i think its worth giving it a go =] seeing as it isnt really damaging

Aw hun =[ that sucks, well i used it again before i went purple when i had manky green/faded blue hair, and it worked but didnt work as well as the first time i used it (with the faded red hair)

Also i used it on my friend yesterday and it stripped hers pretty well, there was still a few bits left though, i think the more washed out your hair is before you use it, the better result you'll get x
