I am seriously considering getting a set. Not sure if they would work with thick long hair though.

My hair is extremely thick, although not long at the moment.  Basically, the longer your hair is, the more secure the installment is, as there's more hair in the braids!  If your hair is really long though, I'd recommend harlequin style double-ended dreads.  Harlequin's are half one colour and half another colour, so the half that is braided into your hair would be the same colour as your hair, so that it blends, then you can go mad with whatever colour/colours/dip dyes/candy canes you want on the other half without the braid ruining the look!

There's quite a lot of tutorials a available on YouTube, but it's not difficult, mainly just repetitive and time consuming!

Mindi... it's been quite a while since you shared these beauties.  I'm curious if you've had them installed yet?  I'm seriously considering going the synth dread route to see how I like them... and if I do, then I'll let my hair grow and go the natural dread route.  I'd love to see pics of yours!  πŸ˜€

Just a quick update - I did install these, but unfortunately, after about a week, I remembered why I stopped wearing synth dreads a couple of years ago - they irritate my scalp massively!  Sadly, I will not be wearing these as an install again, but I will mount them onto some elastics to be worn as hair falls.  Every time I have dreads (both real & synth), I absolutely love how they look, but they give me so much scalp irritation that I give up and take them out!  So I guess that's the end of dreads for me, with the exception of wearing hair falls every now and then!  But the plus is that I can now play with colour for a while, as I was only keeping my hair black so that I didn't have to buy multiple sets of synth dreads!

Did you get any pics when you had them in?  I'm sad to hear they didn't work out for you... but as hair falls I'm sure they will be lovely... especially with some vibrant colour!!!  πŸ˜€

Could you please explain how these were made? Dyes, how you dreaded them, etc.
