Uneven Colour

Hey guys, I've been dyeing my hair with SFX Nuclear Red for about 6 months. I've noticed that because I bleach my roots in order to get the colour to stick that they are really bright but the ends are getting darker. I'm not sure if this is due to my hair being in bad condition or because it has a build up of colour. It fades out to a bright red but the difference between my roots and lengths is quite obvious for the first few weeks.

I was just wondering if there was anything you'd suggest in order to fix this? I don't really want to bleach my entire head.

Thanks  πŸ™‚

I think it's most likely because your ends have been dyed several times, so the color is just getting deeper and deeper.

when you dye it next time, try putting the color just on the roots and keeping it away from the ends. that should help things to look more even.

Thanks for your reply! The only thing is, when it fades it fades out to a horrible colour, so if I just dyed the roots then I'd have bright red roots and like washed out red lengths.

I think maybe after a couple of washes the difference won't be as obvious, I've just dyed it and my mum said that it isn't too obvious.

I've heard about colour protein fillers? I'm not sure if that would help my hair to absorb the colour better. I've tried looking for them in Sally's but can't find them anyway.

whenever you do your color, you can add it to the ends at the end of your processing time to refresh the color there. like, the last 10 minutes or so. you just want to even the color out, right?

I had hair that color for a while, and when I went to do my roots, I would use a red color filler on the entire strand. it helps to equalize the hair's porosity and make the color application more even. you can usually find them right next to the semi-permanent colors. couldn't hurt to give 'em a try, right?

another thing I liked to do to stretch out my color's life was making my own color depositing shampoo. try using an even amount of your semi-permanent color with your shampoo. I'd recommend a color safe shampoo or sulfate free. I think L'Oreal makes one now. you can get a squeeze bottle from Sally's that you can use to keep the mixture in, and because it's semi-permanent, you don't have to throw it out right after you make it.

hope these little tidbits of advice can be of some use to you! =)

i agree with everything chibi hana says. if all of those methods don't work, you could always try doing a bleach bath to take it back to a more neutral colour, taking some of the red build up from the ends, the re do your whole head for a more even colour

Thanks guys! Just one more thing, does anyone know where I'd get a colour filler in the UK? I know that you can get it from Sally's in America but they don't ship over here.

Oh and one more thing, sorry! If I used a clarifying shampoo or Head and Shoulders on the lengths would that fade the colour so that next time I dyed it there wouldn't be so much colour build up and I'd have a lighter base so the end product would match my roots better?

im pretty certain you can get colour filler from sally's in the uk. i think someone has mentioned it on here. yeah clarfying shampoo like pantene's one or head and shoulders it would strip the colour, but it may take a few washes, to achieve the colour you want and it may end up going to the base.
