Removing Atomic Pink - IT CAN BE DONE!

So I remember when I first came here asking advice on how to get rid of atomic pink and got some mix responses but the general thought was that it's near on impossible to remove. Well I managed it so I thought i'd do a little guide with some pics, etc to help anyone else who is thinking of bleaching out AP.

The products I have used along the way:-

Tigi TrueLights bleach powder - this has a purple tint
Tigi 30/20vol Peroxide
Original Source tea tree and mint shampoo - for bleach baths and clarifying
Joico KPak Reconstructor - seriously necessary
Joico Kpak shampoo, conditioner and hydrator - got these in a set with the reconstructor and they did work I think
Coconut oil
Aussie 3 minute miracle
Fair Washing up liquid

So I started out like this to begin with

At this point I asked my hairdresser to do the first full bleach as I felt more comfortable letting her do it. At first she was reluctant because of the colour and having to bleach my hair so she went away and did a strand test, one with 30vol and the other with 40vol. In the mean time I started washing my hair with Fairy washing up liquid to fade the colour, it had an effect on some parts of my hair but not all. I did this for a few weeks until she came back and showed me the strands. The one that had 40vol used was a mess, it snapped in my hands but the 30vol was a little better. Me being stubborn I told her to do it anyway and I'd deal with the results after. She bleached the bottom half first so it wouldn't be over processed then bleached the top once the bottom had been rinsed. It took a fair amount of colour out and I was pleased, it wasn't as damaged as expected either so I spent a month kpaking and coconut oiling it.

This is after the first bleach, we left my roots so as not to overprocess them the next time i bleached.

After a month I began bleach bathing it once a week to strip some more of the pink out and although it worked on some of the lighter parts, it didn't work much on the darker parts. My hairdresser then came back and bleached the lot again, this time using 20 vol.

This is after the 2nd bleach

It's much better here but still pink. I stopped with the bleach baths to give it time to heal and slept in coconut oil once every two weeks and kpaked in between then. It took about a month to get the condition back up to scratch again and I had a few inches chopped off to keep it healthy. Another month later and my hairdresser came back to do my roots and also to bleach the rest of the pink bits. Which brings me to now, the last time it was fully bleached was about 2 months ago and I have done my own roots inbetween then. I've done the odd bleach bath and I'll be doing my roots and bathing it again tomorrow. It's still ongoing as I want to reach all over platinum but want to keep the condition too so I just baby it now.

Here is an up to date picture of how it currently looks. It's a darker shade of blonde at the back atm.

I hope I've gone into enough detail and this helps people, I remember how difficult it was finding info on removing AP.

I was beginning to think there was no way to get the Atomic Pink out of my hair too. I put blue over it and within three weeks it was bright purple/pink. It's been since last October and I still have traces of pink in my head. It's crazy!

atleast someone can get rid of it πŸ˜€ it depends a lot on your hair type/porosity as well.

edit : oops for the necro, I have to check this section more often but its pretty amazing regardless.

Necro is fine; we purposely don't lock any threads in this section in case someone has questions/comments on a tutorial or FAQ πŸ™‚

I kind of wish I'd stayed with the baby pink colour, it was cute! I had to go back to brown again a few months back. I think it was a hormone thing but I just couldn't bleach my roots beyond orange, no matter what I tried and I ended up frying my hair in the process πŸ™

It's still super long, I only had to lose a few inches and I just k-paked it to death. It's in really good condition now.

Ah that isn't too bad...
I have a good fade from normal washing so hopefully I can fade it out and revamp it without too much trauma!!
