The following 'tutorial' was written by Scott Cornwall - the inventor of Colour B4 - and posted on The Student Room. I tried this today on my fourth colour stripping and appear to have lifted additional colour! *yay* I had previously rinsed for the maximum time, moved my hair around and did not have smelly hair for days afterwards, but definitely have porous lengths. I used a couple of towels not a hairdryer because I hoped the towel would 'wick' the water and colour molecules out.
"Secondly with regards to re-oxidation, there are several factors which seem to lead to this. It's been difficult for us to trace patterns in the hair types which seem to re-oxidize. For example, my hair doesn't re-oxidize. I've tried Colour B4 many times and have never found any re-oxidation - even when I have used jet black colours.
The biggest reason the colour will re-oxidize is because it hasn't been rinsed long enough. Although users feel they have rinsed for ages - what feels like 10 minutes can actually be 3! It's a very long and boring process. In fact, my best tip for rinsing it to stand in the shower and do it ....
My best tip to prevent re-oxidation (if your hair is prone to doing it - and remember not all hair types are). Is to rinse and buffer the hair for around 7 minutes. However, then towel off and blast dry with a hairdryer on a warm (not hot) heat setting. When the hair is 90% dry (at least) go back and buffer and rinse again for a further 5 minutes. By drying the hair mid-rinse, you are drawing out that water which could be trapping those colour molecules inside the hair and allowing the 2nd rinsing stage to effectively remove those trapped colour molecules.
After you have done this, for the next 7 days use a simple shampoo such as Baby Shampoo and do not re-colour your hair. You need to make sure all those old colour pigments are gone before using your previous shampoo or re-colouring. If you re-colour and there are old colour molecules trapped inside the hair - the peroxide in the new colour will oxidize them and cause your finished colour result to appear much darker than you had hoped ....
However, its incredibly rare the hair goes more than a shade or so darker with re-oxidation. It just tends to show up darker on (particularly) previously highlighted hair, as it mutes down all the blonde."

I suggest setting a timer as well--because it does take absolutely ages to rinse all the stuff out. 10 minutes for the main solution and a further 10 for the buffer.

I wish I hadn't had to crack on with my dye attempt, it would have been interesting to see if I had any re-oxidising during today! On a previous occasion I thought I did just during the rinse/ wash/ dry process which didn't occur this time. Thought I'd post here so we can have all the reports in one place; my experience is not very 'scientific' because the conditions were not the same for each attempt (eg. box lightened between Jo Baz attempts, didn't condition after this time). *gun*

i tried the drying halfway through thing and it defintely helps! Iv always had trouble with reoxidising but not this time! (alos i did it with JoBaz - so works the same for that brand too)

i'm gonna buy another box of the stuff today- but does the jobazz stuff work as well as colourb4 in your opinions?
don't mind buying the colourb4 if it is actually better 🙂
so if i do another colourb4, (i did the drying halfway through thing, but that was only with a towel...so will attempt with a hairdryer again!) i also timed, and rinsed my hair for 20minutes straight!!! so don't see how i can do anything more really :/
wish it would just work lol it's sooo frustrating...
after ive left my hair for a month, would highlights in a cap work best or box dyes~??

I was happy with the Jo Baz and I think many others have been, just make sure you get the stronger Max. You really do need to keep moving your hair around during rinsing which is difficult when it is as dry as straw: I resorted to alternating gentle scrunching with finger combing. 🙁 We won't know for sure whether this drying trick works until a few more people have posted their reviews, but IMO it is worth a shot. Some people are always going to have cuticle staining or melted silicone blocking the product unfortunately.

i found this post on the student room yesterday, so glad of it! on friday i colour b4'd my ends to lift my dark brown back to a light enough base to dip-dye with a veggie dye. it brought it to a lovely honey colour, and i was over the moon. however within a day, i realised my hair had darkened down to a light chestnut 🙁 i only rinsed for the minimum amount of time recommended so it must be to do with this. gonna do another application of it tomorrow hopefully and try this rinse/dry/rinse method, i'll let you know how it goes!

hi little off topic sorry but can you only get jobaz in savers? there isn't one in edinburgh and only two going on ebay.

ive never seen it anywhere else. although there's a shop up north called bodycare, or something similar. they might do it

I've seen it in Home bargains, probably in bodycare too - although if they don't have jo bazz, I got colour b4 for 6.99 when I got it, which wasn't bad.

Thanks so much guys going for a hunt today! I know colour before is a bit of a miracle and 11£ isn't a fortune but if i can get jobaz i have a few more quid to spend on a better conditioner for after bleachbath 🙂

Is there any reason why this woudn't work with decolour remover, too, as an alternative to the two 'towel dry' stages? I've used colour b4 twice and the last time the lift was amazing (light golden blonde!) but it had reoxidised to ginger within two days. I'm going to have one last go with decolour remover but since it's the last opportunity before cracking out the bleach, I want to make sure I do it right.
