Getting fit/going to the gym with a job

Soo I really wanna start getting fit again, I've put on a few lbs since I've started my job which is ok but I'd like to get back to the weight I was before. I'd like to join a gym as I've never done that before, a few years ago I lost about 5 stone just by working out in my house but now I'm on my feet for almost 11 hours, 5 days a week so when I get home all I wanna do is sit down, but I feel like if I go straight from work to the gym then I'll be "forced" to work out, ya know?

I'm just wondering how you ladies that work a full time job and work out manage it?

My boyfriend goes to the gym, or tries to, 3 times a week before work.

I hate the gym, so just walk and swim as often as I can fit into my day!

I found that when I worked in retail I banged on quite a bit of weight as my feet hurt so much by the end of the day that I couldn't exercise. Something like swimming would probably be good I imagine as it could help you relax too, ( I can't swim so I don't know for sure, but it looks pretty relaxing!).
The best results I ever had was when I joined a gym that was right by where I worked so I used to go on my lunch break or before or after work depending on how I felt (but that was when I worked in an office job so my feet weren't so sore!) I'd probably advise that you don't sign a long term contract though as you might find it too much with being on your feet so much and then you'd end up wasting money!
I've got about 3 or 4  stone to lose after seriously injuring my back a few years ago but luckily I'm working from home at the moment so I'm just doing workout videos when I get up in the morning.

Heh,  I had the opposite. When I worked in retail I would gain less weight because I was on my feet all day!

I had hoped that would be the case for me, but I worked somewhere that never covered my lunch break so I used to have to live on chocolate bars wolfed down when the shop was quiet -then I'd be starving when I got out of work and eat takeaway on the way home!

I do pretty much the same thing 🙁 I work in retail and work between a subway and a mcdonalds so it's so easy just to pop in to one of them for lunch. And then when I get home I'm so tired I don't wanna cook so end up eating more crap!

Lol that's why I said gained less weight rather than anything else! I ate pretty badly.

Aah the diet of the retail worker! If I ate like that now I'd probably be 80 stone and have indigestion constantly! It's definitely a young person's game!

Yeah, when I started working from home and didn't change my eating habits enough (it's portion control mostly with me, I have a huge appetite) and put on loads.

I lost a lot, several stone, over a year and a half, but in the last year I've been a bit overwhelmed with several little illnesses and stress and I've put most of it back on because I stopped exercising (walking and swimming) again 🙁 I've got about 4 or 5 stone to lose again. It really sucks, but I have to because I just don't feel healthy and mobile at this weight. I'm ok with being a stone or two over if I'm fit.

It's such an uphill struggle isn't it? I've always struggled with my weight and swing from a 10 to an 18 and back again over and over. Lately, like since I was about 35 I've found it much harder to lose anything at all and I go from a 14 to an 18 and back even if I put in an incredible amount of effort. I'm doing the Insanity videos at the moment but only 5 days a week rather than 6 as I just can't face it at weekends when I've got shopping to do and stuff. I agree that I can feel fine a couple of stone overweight - and I even feel better at around a 12-14 than at a 10 but at the moment at a 16 I just feel sluggish and stiff and old. I get so angry with myself every time I gain it all back but I love the buzz of losing weight but get bored maintaining it, then I go into denial that I'm gaining it back and ignore it til I'm overweight again!
