Hi Thanks for looking, need some advice here, i have been in the process of going silver not grey, my hair was origionally Blonde with brown highlights underneath, so i bleached the hair, the brown went orangey roots so bleached again, have plenty of experience with bleach and hairs is healthy, so after 2 applications hair was yellow with white outer hair and ends, used Loreal silver shampoo, left for 5 mins, didnt tone the yellow down but made my white outer hair a bit silvery, so my question is, do i need to bleach again, last time it didnt seem to go any lighter, or if i buy a silver toner, will it tone the yellow down, and give me an all over even silver colour, dont want to waste my money if i end up having to bleach again, i think the yellow is light enough to tone but need to confirm this, and if anyone could suggest a good silver toner not grey please in the uk, below is some pics from the first time i bleached to the second and now, showing you the yellowness underneath, thanks

The darker parts are too dark/warm to tone to silver. You need palest yellow, the colour of the inside of a banana.
Was it dyed brown before you bleached? if so a colour remover may help, or it may not lift any further if it is stained.
Can you explain what you mean by silver but not grey? To my mind silver is a light cool toned shade of grey. Do you mean silver blonde?
If you need to bleach again, only bleach the areas that are currently too dark.

The first two pictures are before i bleached it then i did it a second time, the results are the last two pictures, thats the yellow i am asking the question about, if it is too dark i can re-bleach it, they didn't lift much though previously and thats with maximum strength bleach, i can try again i suppose, see if it lifts more, the brown was already there before i bleached.

By silver i mean like the picture below, when i have mentioned it before some people think i mean grey, which is to dark, the silver i want is like an iced white with a hint of ash, i love the Redken 09T chrome shade but i cant seem to get this in the uk, but its vailable in the US, so i am looking for something similar, i would prefer an already premixed toner, thought this may be the best place to ask, i hear some people using the directions, but im a bit concerned the silver may be to dark, thanks for the reply 🙂

I think you will need to lighten further to get the remaining yellow out.
I achieved a similar colour with Pravana silver diluted roughly by half. With direct dyes if you are worried they will be too dark you can always dilute with a silicone free conditioner. Generally silver shades are very light, crazy colour and Directions silvers are both quite light, bluish shades.
Wella colour fresh also has a range of silver shades.
You can also make your own silver toner by diluting a purple based blue such as Directions Neon Blue or Special Effects Blue Velvet.

Ok thanks going to lighten it further today, I'm lucky to have healthy hair with all this bleaching, and coconut oil is my best friend, I have a live mousse ash silver toner, and I also have a well a t18 toner but don't think that's silver enough, also have loreal silver shampoo so I will probably try the mousse after I lightened it, will post results wish me luck.

When did you last bleach your hair? You should leave at least a month between full strength bleaches. I know you said your hair's healthy no2w but bleach damage doesn't necessarily show immediately, which is why we advise to wait. (When it happened to me it was about three weeks after I bleached that my hair all started to snap off 🙁 ) It's much better in the long run to lighten slowly!

I'm not using a bleach this time, for that reason I think its light enough to lighten using a feria platinum so it tones at the same time, was only applying to yellow roots then for last 5 mins was gona put it all over and wash off, it says no ammonia, then was going to apply some toner mousse which isn't harmful at all, you think this will be ok, I am so impatient kids are off school half term so wanted it done this week before I have to leave the house in public, I last bleached my hair only a few days ago but completely covered my hair and scalp in coconut oil during the process, there isn't even 1 split end, it wasn't dry either I had not used bleach on my hair for over a year previously.

I don't really think feria platinum is the best thing to use. A bleach bath with a low volume peroxide would be a lot better. There's still no knowing how high volume peroxide is in the dye and most very pale blondes have VERY high volume in. So, I would say, bad, bad idea. Bleach bath and then use a separate veggie dye (as recommended above) to tone. Or the toner mousse, but they're generally not great.

I will never recommend doing anything on hair that's been bleached within the last 4 weeks. Damage from bleaching can take several weeks to show up, silicone products can hide damage etc etc. You could have a lot more damage than you realise. Of course, it's up to you, but I can't say it's a good idea at all. Really, you should wait a month before even bleach bathing, but if you really insist, do a bleach bath at the most.

Even the most seasoned bleacher can end up with a mess if they push too much I'm afraid! Most of us here know that 🙂

I totally agree and know my hair could end up a bit more damaged, I use to bleach white years ago when I was younger, I however used the feria only because I realised I have a night out at the weekend which left me with no choice and couldn't cancel, I only left it on 10 mins on roots until I seen the dark yellow lighten, I was extra careful leaving this on, and finally have a nice even colour like the inside of a banana pale yellow, I dyed over coconut oil so it protected my hair more than it would without, it was a little dry, but I covered it in Aragon oil and left it on all night, going to wash it today and apply toner, then I'm done will be treating my hair with lots of loving care, and I'll be making a hair protein mix at home, I will post results later when I tone it white, I will b using well a colour fresh 8.81 toner.

Ok so I bought the LA rich directions silver colour and followed instructions leaving on for 15 mins, but it didn't work it just made it white like a toner, should I leave it on longer next time? Or would you suggest another product maybe, thanks

If you have some left, try again but leave it on much longer. i like to leave direct dyes on for at least 2 hours, preferably 4 if I want them to last. Make sure you apply to clean but unconditioned hair, covering and adding heat from a hairdryer will help it to take as well.
Pravana Silver is a good choice although you may need to dilute it with conditioner or Adore platinum if you can get it (It is new so not stocked everywhere yet)
