I dye my roots with L'Oreal highlights in magenta then the rest with ion brights in red. Though I'm in the market for a new semi permanent red because this one fades so fast, after two weeks it starts looking light pink in some places then orange in others.

I do similar with the hi lights magenta, red, copper …then I use One and Only Perfect Intensity Magenta recently. ONO Red is more deep & "orange". I have PRAVANA & Special Effects the later is awesome. The magenta from ONO is lasting a month or more so far!!!it is gorgeous and I have to shampoo everyday because of being so active outside. 😉

Also, yeah try special effects reds. They're great.
I used to get about 4-6 weeks out of Special Effects reds (particularly Nuclear Red) – they really spoilt me for other dyes!
