I had a quick question…I am currently coloring my hair a sort of grayish/lavenderish. I have quite dark hair, so I've bleached it out, and my next step was to use the wella t18 toner…but when I poured the toner into a bowl, it was a very dark sort of purple? Im now unsure if it is usable. I don't mind if it tints the hair sort of purple, I just want to get the brassiness out to avoid any possibility of having a green tint from the titanium dye. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it workable, or should I just brave another trip to the shop in all my brash, brassy glory? Thanks so much!
When I used it on my daughter, it came out almost clear, and turned purple as it oxidized? I don't have a Ton of experience with it though, so I wasn't sure 😀
I went ahead and tried it, and there was a Slight tinge, but I rather liked it! So I went ahead and applied everywhere. Hopefully it works out! I'm not picky though, I'm actually letting my 13 year old do it, as they've showed a great interest in doing hair and such 😉
I'm glad it worked out 🙂
I believe when it's very new and not been opened it can come out clear, but if the bottle has been opened or is older, it will certainly be more oxidised, but only slightly. So it'll have the colour but still be fine. I've only ever had one bottle and that was purple and I don't think friends of mine that have used it have had it come out clear. honestly, the tinge will just because your hair picked up a tinge, not because of the age or colour it was when it started. Over time it will lose potency rather than gain (though, I'm not 100% sure on that).
However, most of us don't use it as it's way to damaging for how long it lasts. You're far better off using purple shampoo left on for about 10 mins or making a toner with purple/lilac dye and conditioner. Much better in the long run.
Thank you! I really appreciate the heads up; I had just read about making a purple shampoo at home, and it definitely seemed to help, I think in the future I'll do that instead 😀 it's kind of hard to find info that is reliable online, and most forums I've browsed seem very…clique orientated? It's very intimidating, when you see people ask genuine questions, and get talked down to instead of helped :/ this place seems very inclusive though! I definitely think I'll be hanging around a lot more <3
I'm glad you find it friendly! We're not that busy right now, but there's several people who pop in regularly 🙂
You don't need to make your own shampoo though, I like bonacure silver shampoo best, but if you're in the UK touch of silver (might have recently changed to include purple in the name though) which you can get in Boots or Superdrug gives pretty good results.
Thank you again! I'm actually in the southern bit of the United states, but I appreciate it nonetheless 😀
Does the purple shampoo really work to cancel out the brassiness? My kids friend is over and wants to color his hair, but it is Definitely to yellow to do what he wants at the moment. His mom does not want him to bleach/damage it further (but did agree to the coloring). Might this be a feasible workaround?
If the hair is pale enough, yes. Though, I have had some success with it toning down more dark yellow hair to a more ashy dark tone, if that makes sense? You might need to leave it on for a while though. And, if it's really dark orange yellow it might do nothing. Worth a try though!
