Most if not all Allergy Patch Test, say to apply a small amount of mixed solution onto the bend of the elbow and to rinse off and pat dry the area after 45 minutes; then observe Test area for a further 48 hours.
However, in my opinion, it isn't clear whether the mixed solution is completely rinsed off ?
When I rinse my elbow under warm water and pat dry; it doesn't completely remove the solution and I'm left with a very dark brownish splodge of hair dye on my arm, which looks like a birth mark.
Am I expected to walk around with this splodge of dye on my elbow for the next 48 hours or should it of been completely rinsed off after the initial 45 minute Patch Test.
If it's not obvious; I'm of a pale complextion.

Yeah, there's not a lot you can do other than cover it with a plaster/band aid or wear a long sleeve top until it wears off! It's a lot better than your head blowing up like a beach ball and a scary visit to the hospital 🙂 I've witnessed it happening to someone and it is super scary!

You'd think Hair Dye Manufacturers would make it clear.
Even online videos; they all show the application of the solution but none show or even mention what's to be expected when the solution is risied off and dried.
I'm sure the vast majority of hair dye users, including myself, would wrongly assume this splodge of dye within the bend of the elbow, should be rinsed off and completely removed after the initial 45 minutes.
And by doing so, it may seriously effect the benefit of the Patch Test.?

Well, they don’t mention it being rinsed off because it isn’t meant to be rinsed off. I guess they don’t think to say that because they think it’s obvious? I don’t know.

It’s also much better because it puts it behind the ear which I’ve always thought is the much better way of doing it. Most people can hide it better there.
I might be wrong about this, but I think it has to be left on there because it’s a tiny amount. Allergies to hair dye are often because of build up of exposure. In time you can build an allergy to it. When you’re dying your hair you have far more dye on your skin than during the test, so I think when you do the patch test you have to leave it on for a while to mimic it being a larger amount? As I said, I might be completely wrong, it’s something like that though. But yes, it can affect the outcome if you wash it off.

It maybe obvious; it wasn't to me
I've bleached and or dyed my hair for years.
My hair has always been short around the back and sides and still is; kinda in a style similar to Emeli Sande's original quiff, so an Allergy Colour Test behind the ear isn't practical, especially now I know that to rinse the solution under warm water and dry, doesn't actually mean to rinsie it off completely; think I'd rather a splodge of color in the bend of my elbow than behind my ear.
I have since checked the Nice n Easy website and now it does state to leave the Patch Test solution on the skin and undisturbed for 48 hours, with no mention of it being rinsed under warm water.
Although the leaflet supplied with the product, clearly states to apply the Patch Test Solution and leave undisturbed for 45 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water and dry the skin gently, then leave the area undisturbed for 48 hours.
Was it really so obvious ?
