I have a few pairs of docs that length, they arent too bad to break in, the usual doc marten pain i find! and as theyre lace ups, you can make them as loose around the calves as you want! One of my pairs I only lace up half way and have the top open. =]
I used to wear even higher docs when I was in my 20s, and that is what I used to do with the laces. I just worry as my calves are fatter and it might look really silly as I'm older now! I generally say screw it, I don't care how old I am, but I have my moments when I worry lol
The last pair of docs I had have really put me off as they just never broke in, but I'm actually suspecting I might have got fakes without realising as there's some seams in them that just don't seem right. There's one at the bottom of the tongue and it cuts off the circulation to my toes!
I have been thinking about the triumph ones too... or maybe something from this shop http://www.fairysteps.co.uk but the soles are SO flat I think I'd have trouble with them.

I always find it hurts there the most on my docs, and I got alot of mine from Dr marten shops, so i know they're real.
If you want, i can take photos of my black ones which are broken in and done up half way? I am also not the smallest calved thanks to years of trampolining!
lol it was years of riding a bicycle around the Devon hills when I was a kid that gave me giant calves. They really are mostly muscle, just a little added fat these days π
I think I might just have to go to a shop and try them again, see how I feel. Maybe they always did hurt there? I probably just ignored it in my youthful stubbornness π

Yeah, its always the top of my foot that hurts, in fact, I was breaking some in the other day, I wore them ti uni and had to take them off in class cos my toes were going to sleep!
I personally like my docs much more with them not being done up right to the top, and I sometimes switch out the laces for ribbons =]
I wear ribbons in mine too π
Those boots are gorgeous Intemp, my friend has the same pair.
I'm wanting a pair of lovely yellow and pink DM's that I saw in the shop in my city a few months back.
My latest buy was Cherryade π
I have not shopped for clothes for myself in ages (we're talking 2+ years). I've been waiting until I lose weight... which isn't happening. I have felt frumpy and miserable... so today I shopped a sale at Torrid online... I can return the items that don't fit locally, but they offer more styles online than they do in the shops. So... here's one tee I picked up out of a few, and I'm also getting some leggings to wear under a new denim mini skirt. I hope they all fit!!! π

On a related note, my last purchase was Diet Coke with Cherry π
Modified, that's an awesome shirt!
Intemp, I'll be quizzing you on those boots soon. I want them and have for ages too, but I want to know how bad they are to break in and how much calf leeway there is. I have giant calves!
They came yesterday! I put them on and trotted around the flat in them for a few minutes before my driving lesson. I'll break down what I can from the few glorious minutes I wore them yesterday.
*They are distressed leather, so very soft. It doesn't seem like much breaking in will be required at all--I could quite easily walk around in them. The heel is a little bit on the stiff side, so I will probably plaster the back of my ankles before wearing them on a day out, but other than that, the leather is nice and supple
*I have large calves as well, and they look ok. I do wish the tongue was slightly wider as the sides of the tongue just about meet the eyelets on my calves. I do still have probably about half an inch to an inch of fat to lose off of them, though, so in a few months that might change.
*There's a zip on the inner side of the boots, so once you get your laces sorted, you never need to unlace.
*The embroidery does go through to the inside of the boot (there's no lining), so they might snag on tights, but I didn't find it particularly scratchy.
*They look awesome with shorts/skirts or jeans, as there is a small rose embroidered right by the toe, so the pretty design still peeks out under long trousers.
All in all, I'm so happy with them and I can't wait to wear them out!
Oh, and I bought these this morning:
^ahhhhhh love love love!
Just bagged myself a haul from Fragrance Direct -- 30 makeup items for Β£35 delivered! They're mainly eyeshadows and liners (I blame pixiwoo for my recent eye obsession) plus a couple of mascaras and a maybelline lipstick. Can't wait for it to arrive so I can have a play!
This coat:
Hmm links are not showing up as images, odd...
