It depends on what you're after, really.

I use XXL blonde shades to bleach my roots with, and they're really good.  I've used the reds in the past and they always go brown (any box red will go brown eventually), and I've used one of the blacks once and it was a good colour result, even though it didn't suit my skin tone!

The reds and purples will never, ever look like the box (ever), but the natural shades are generally pretty good.  One thing to bear in mind, though, is they use a silicone delivery system, so if you use straighteners or curling irons with a very high heat setting, it can actually cause the silicone to fuse to the hair shaft and then absolutely nothing will remove it, not even bleach.

I'm assuming that you're talking about the permanent shades.  The ultra brights are a different matter--I've never used them, but the reviews we've had regarding them seem to all say the same thing; they only last about a week and aren't worth the money.

Well I thinking of going purple but if they don't look like what they do on the box then it's not worth it I did you the ultra brights before I dye it with the ultra brights last year and it still in my hair  ๐Ÿ˜ฎ but thank for the reply very helpful

A search on here will pull up quite a bit of info I'm sure. I've never used them but it seems like most people don't care for them. I'd be afraid to use them with their silicone technology, a lot of people get permanently stuck with a color from heat styling after drying it with one of their colors. Semis like the ones sold here are better quality, last long and aren't damaging whatsoever. Special Effects Deep Purple is good, you could mix in some Blue Velvet or some other blue if you want is more of a violet

I have used both the purple shades in the past, Mystic Violet and Cyber Purple, they fade very quickly to a reddish colour, then a dull auburn. The purple tones only last a couple of washes at most.
If you want that plummy type of colour you would be better lightening your hair to a dark ginger and using a purple semi, such as those sold through this site. You will be able to top the colour up as it fades without damaging your hair, and keep the purple more vibrant.

I've been using the Ultra bright purple and so far its actually been the only purple to STAY in my hair. I really like using both the ultra bright purple and the pink at the same time.

I suppose it depends on 2 things....
1. Hair colour before dying
2. Shade which you want to dye it.

Years ago I used XXL (it was a really deep purple) but my hair was dark brown. You could see it in the daylight but didn't have that oomph I wanted (or what was promised on the box). But it depends on your original colour and the shade, plus they may have changed their formula? What works for some may not work for others...

Bear in mind I#m a bit of a novice in comparisson to others on this forum ๐Ÿ™‚

The OP was asking about the permanent dyes in that range, abespoketouch is referring to the direct dyes in that range, so two totally different products

Actually, I was never really sure if the thread was about the permanent or semi permanents! The op never really did say, even when she mentioned having used the ultra brights before. Which is why I never posted in the thread!

So I think it's a very confusing thread and I might lock it so it doesn't come up again.

I don't think the dye was meant to be permanent  8)

Yeah, the XXL box dyes do fade really quickly unless you're willing to wash your hair once a week to keep the colour for longer. I was also never a fan of the colour they faded to, especially when it came to the purple range.

However, when I was dying my hair XXL Pure Purple it did stay vibrant for much longer than the rest. And faded to a really pretty red rather than auburn. But it deffo is more pinky than purple.

I have used Live Ultra Steel Silver 098. It is semi-permanent. I always get my roots to a platinum blonde with very light yellow tones after one bleach. This dye turned my hair a little silvery with hint of a green tone. I only used it once as I disliked the green tint.

Note: I diluted the dye with a normal conditioner in order to prevent it from going dark grey, as I have experienced before with Pravana Silver.
