Going blue!

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to go blue, specifically Manic Panic Shocking Blue. My hair is naturally dark blonde, but I had it dyed increasingly dark shades of brown, and eventually black, at a salon. Much of the black has grown out, and I've been dying the roots light brown. My hairdresser put bleach highlights through my hair about two months ago, and then toner so that it was a light brown colour. Today, I had more bleach highlights, and I also had the majority of the dark ends cut off.

Here's what it looks like now:

What would the effect of placing Manic Panic Shocking Blue over my hair as it is currently be? How bright would it be?

Thanks!

I'd just like to add that the underneath parts are darker than the parts on top!

I would say the dark parts are too dark for a nice vivid blue, and they will definitely fade quite sludgey. The highlighted areas are perfect and will be a bright blue. Try a strand test on the darkest area to see if it is a colour you will be happy with.

Thanks for the response! Can you please link me to an example of what you mean by 'sludgy'?

With semi permanent dyes like these the final outcome is affected by the base colour, which is why you need to bleach to a pale blonde to get the swatch colour. If you can imagine drawing on brown paper with a blue felt tip, you will get a similar shade putting blue dye over light brown hair. It is a really hard colour to describe, but dark and muddy not a clear vivid shade.
If you look at the gallery pics for Shocking Blue, you will see examples over lots of different bases. The darker less vivid blues will be over darker bases. http://www.hairdyegallery.co.uk/mp-shockingblue.html
