Ive been having a rest from bright colours for quite some time, so am a bit out of practice.. I recently dyed someone else's hair (very short hair) from natural, I bleached it with 30 vol, and it took really well to inside of banana skin yellow. They wanted silver, on first attempt of toning we used Directions silver, it did tone the yellow to light blonde although wasnt silver. so, the next time we toned, I used Jerome Russell silver toner with a little violet directions (was old stock violet I had in cupboard) and it went a lovely light silvery colour. super ! job done... Fast forward to me doing the root regrowth today. The roots lightened up fabulously. I used directions silver mixed with directions violet.. all new tubs. I could tell straight away the violet was uber strong despite the small amount Id added to silver , and not how I expected it to be the minute I finished applying it. so we washed it immediately. literally within minutes of the first brush applying it, so was super surprised it was bright violet ! we washed with head and shoulders straight away. and it went a lot lighter, but still light violet. My male guinea pig was not so chuffed at the violet hue. it wasnt shifting.. so I did a really really dilute light bleach bath... horror... it went mint green.. luckily he has a good sense of humour and isnt killing me... however... after a clarifying shampoo , it faded to a lighter minty green . so we reapplied just the silver directions... no joy.. its now an icy blue at mid section, its about a couple of inches of this colour, the roots are back to blonde as are the lengths, like a pre toner lightened blonde, and there is about two inches of this icy blue with green tinge, any ideas please? he is currently soaking in the tub ... I need some magic fast as it needs fixing before Monday eeeek.... His hair is short, with a little length on top, Im stumped at the moment. He is cool about it all, but... really does need fixing asap. he cant go green, he really does want silvery blonde.
Very diluted pink on top of minty green will get you back to a silver shade. warm pink will be more silver blonde, cool pink will be more of a true silver.
Violet always bleaches to that colour BTW, most blue based purples do.
Thankyou for you speedy reply, much appreciated. How would I go about getting an all over colour, he is currently, blonde at roots, blonde at ends, and the icy blue (with slight green tinge) mid lengths.. Im wondering wether to try another silver, not directions though, not a fan anymore tbh, if I got that jerome russell silver toner tomorrow might it cover the whole thing? or do I need to get icy blue all over first. I have some midnight blue, pesky violet, and some silver directions left. I have pinks though too. thanks again 🙂
edited to add.. or should I try to tone the icy bit first, with pink?
Hard to say without a pic, but unless you want to cover it all with a darker colour, i think you need to try and get an even base first. Maybe try toning the green parts with very diluted pink, and then matching the roots/ends to that colour?
yes, makes sense, or he will still have banding of different shade. thanks again for you help
I give up ;D I cant get rid of the banding, at least its not greenish at all now, its back to violet ish *stars* so he now has silver roots and tips and a band of violet/lavender... I think Im sacked 😮
How about putting a darker grey over it all? Pravana silver or Nirvel grey maybe?
yes that sounds a plan, Ive struggled to get Pravana, always sold out, or ridiculous amounts on ebay etc. not heard of Nirvel, will have a look and see if I can order it , thank you.
You can get Nirvel (Artx Nutre Color) from Ebay, it is a really dark, warm toned grey, a charcoal shade. You can dilute it and add some blue if you want it more silver toned, but it is definitely the darkest grey direct dye on the market.
great , thank you so much for all your help
Im back in his good books ! slavered on coconut oil and did a bleach bath first thing on the band of colour , and wonder of wonders, back to blond, after all that panicking and fading yesterday , phew! no green reared its head , just a light blonde base.
