Turning a box dye into semi? XXL

Ok so I just watched this video: Pink Hair With Live Color XXL

From what I can tell, she just used the colour tube and mixed with conditioner - no developer used. Would this just turn it into a semi permanent? Would this theoretically work with other box dyes? Has anyone here tried this? How long would it last?

The XXL Ultra Brights range are semi permanent direct dyes, they are not designed to be used with peroxide. So they can be mixed with conditioner just like any of the dyes sold here.

Ahh ok that makes sense now. I just assumed that they were the same as the other xxl ones. Thanks.

No, there aren't any bright pink permanent dyes.

Actually there are some in Asia, Berina brand is the only one I know of by name. Although I doubt any pink dyes, permanent or semi permanent stick around longer than Atomic Pink.

They aren't as bright though, are they? All the permanent/oxidative brights i have seen have been more muted than the direct dyes

It's interesting that she got such a bright result after 2 mins. I bet it almost totally disappeared right away!

Lol my guess is, it's a bathroom mat or rug! That's not a colour you see in carpets often!

Her next video was less than a week later (I love Melonlady) and it had faded to a barely there pastel.

true, janine!  i know my sister's bedroom carpeting was bright pink (and mine was purple, growing up)... but i don't think that either were commonly sold colors.

still, that's a mess waiting to happen!! haha

I thought it was a towel.

but out of interest, theoretically, could you use a box dye without the developer to turn it into a true semi?

I wish I could say I like her... but she shouts so much!

The threads are too long for a towel, but I have a bath mat just like it though! In red!

No.

It might stain a bit, but it's pointless. The dyes aren't designed to work like that. They're not designed to stain the outside of the hair, they're designed to go under the cuticle and the peroxide lifts the cuticle to allow the dye molecules in.

They aren't as bright though, are they? All the permanent/oxidative brights i have seen have been more muted than the direct dyes

I just had a look at the brand spooki mentioned and they do have brights. Doubt they last long though.
