Hey guys!
I've been having some trouble with my hair colour lately. The last time I stripped out my colour (Directions Turquoise and Birght Daffodil/Spring Green), my hair went a surprisingly nice not-exactly-but-almost-pure-blonde colour. Apparently there were more green tones in it than initially visible though since it went a rather true blue colour when I put dilluted CC Violette on. I really liked it and it only went minimally greenish after a few weeks.
Last night I stripped the colour out again as I felt like being blonde for a while and my roots are due for a retouch soon. The blonde my hair turned out to be was pretty weird and hard to define, it was definitely uglier than the last time lol (which is kinda weird considering the dyes that were in it before). To be honest I wasn't exactly sure it would work to begin with since I really just couldn't put my finger on what was wrong with the colour (this makes me feel so stupid but I genuinely just couldn't tell if it was too yellow or too green or too orange or some kind of mix), but I decided to go ahead and use some purple/blue toner anyway to at least try to get a more ashy blonde colour (I used CC Violette and SE Blue Velvet). Unfortunately, it gave my hair a weird minty tint which definitely does have a silvery quality to it (especially in the sun), but just looks strange. I'm kind of a fan of these kinda ''ugly'' colours actually, but I don't like this one on myself very much (or I'm just not really feeling it right now). Now this all isn't a big catastrophy, I have enough pretty colours to cover this, but I really would like to be blonde for a bit and also I'm just curious, so I do have some questions maybe some of you clever people could help me with:
Why did purple turn my hair greenish? I know some purples tend to fade green, but they don't just go green when you're trying to use them as a toner, do they? Could anybody deduce the kind of tint my hair had to begin with considering this reaction? This almost feels like some kind of math problem
Would some pink toning counteract this maybe? Red? Orange?
I'm pretty good with the colour theory stuff usually, but I'm just stumped now *stars* Excuse the kinda long and rambly post, I hope that's not too annoying. Also, I'd totally add pictures if it was any useful. I did take some of pretty much every stage of my hair I just described, but unfortunately the colours are really really really not accurate in those and they're just not gonna help.
It'll be that the purple was a bit too blue for the yellow you had. It's not so much maths as paint mixing π you didn't need to add the extra blue to the toner, or you added too much. My guess is you didn't need to add it.
A pale pink will work. Take a photo, use image software to invert the colours and you should get an idea of the shade of pink to mix.
