Removing ion blue!

I just realized this had posted without text! So here's what I said the first time, I'll see if it posts now...

What a NIGHTMARE color! I've been doing my own hair in funky colors for years and never ever had one as stubborn as this!

I'm pretty sure I did two vitamin c treatments followed by a bleach bath followed by another vitamin c treatment followed by another bleach bath followed by a toner and another bleach bath and then another toner. This was all over the course of several weeks of course, and my final picture is a blow dried picture with NO product in my hair.. Though I won't say it's not feeling the pain a little. The last toner left it a little purple, but I'm hoping that'll wash out through the course of regular washing, and I have an olaplex treatment booked for this Friday. Whew. Here's a couple photos taken throughout the process...

On a lot of people Ions blues are totally permanent, even full strength bleach doesn't shift it so that is quite an impressive result.

Yeah I had read that on here, which is why I wanted to share! I had really wanted to do bright red/orange next, but I just don't see it looking great with what's going on here.. So I'll probably go for a level 8 blonde and a decent trim and sit on my hands for a while before attempting to do red. :/

A good red will cover your current base with no problems, reds are pretty forgiving, much more so than blues.

Yeah, red will easily cover that. I've covered some really badly multi coloured bases with reds πŸ™‚

I'm just afraid it would fade insanely fast if I did it right now. I did a test strand for like two hours, the red took, but washed out within a couple washes, and the orange took on a horrible muddy version of itself. This is using direct dyes of course, but I'm fine with waiting a bit to see if it'll hold better in a couple months after my hair has had some time to calm down.

I would just do it now and top it up in a couple of weeks... What red is it? I usually can't get red dyes to fade!

So, we went to darken my blonde.. And it went orangey. So we went with it! Wasn't exactly the shade I wanted, but I dig it.

I'm kind of hoping that the ends fade so I can put more of a yellowy Orange on the ends and more of a true red on the roots so I end up with a sort of fire ombrΓ©.
