So I've finally managed to get my stubbornly stained hair blonde, and thanks to lots of advice on here, my hair is in good nick! Definitely the most successful blonde I've ever had. I'm loving it. However my roots are darker (and brassier) than the rest of my hair and I know I need to rebleach, but I want to wait at least a month so I can baby my hair a bit more.
I was thinking of dunking some diluted semi permanent dye (I'm thinking pink or purple) over the roots and bring it through the lengths a bit just to make it look a bit more attractive as it's a bit... odd looking right now. Haha! A bit like the picture I've attached but more probably diluted than that. My ends are a nice platinum blonde so I figured I could do what she's done and leave them.
I'd just like some advice on how to do it really? I've never dyed on top of blonde hair whilst wanting to keep some of the blonde, only ever dyed over it completely. If that makes sense?
Any tips?
Thanks loves!
Go with purple. It'll help the toning on it's way and it's also easier to remove than pink. I find, for me anyway, even heavily diluted pink can stick around for a lot longer than I want.
To do it. Section off your hair and take small sections from that. Get a little of the diluted dye and rub it in or use a tint brush to paint it on the roots. Then just pull it down through the hair several times. Son't add more dye unless there's nothing happening, but when you do, add it to the roots again and pull down. Stop a little bit above where you want it as it might run through a bit. You can use some conditioner to then blend it more by pulling it through if you feel the need and conditioner will likely save the ends from any run off if you don't want the ends to get whiter.
I have the brassy roots problem when I go blonde and never solved it as I just have too much yellow in my hair. I could only get it paler below the roots by the overlap of the beach when I did my roots again.
Wow thanks for the speedy reply Janine! π
Yes I was thinking purple would be the best bet for the brassiness, and now you mention it, last time I was pink it did stick around longer than I wanted it to.
The brassy roots is a pain in my butt, the rest of my hair is exactly the colour I want, but my roots have a lovely gold tone to them. Pft. I'm naturally dark blonde/light brown, but I've noticed my roots come in quite dark these days (with the odd grey of course). Fingers crossed my next bleach will do something positive!
Thanks again! I will make sure I post the outcome. π
