Light Violet Hair

Hi all! I haven't been on this forum for such a long time but I'm probably going to dye my hair a light cool toned violet colour next month so I need some advise.

This is the colour I'm going for:

Excuse the bad quality, they're screenshots from YouTube. The first two people used Pravana violet diluted and the last person used MP ultraviolet diluted. Also I understand their hair colour may actually look a bit different in real to how it appears on screen, but how I see it on screen is the colour I want.

My hair is mostly level 10 light blonde with some 9 and slightly darker bits. Ideally I would wait to get a 100% even colour before going over with violet, but I've been waiting like over a year to get an even base and I've decided this will probably be as good as it gets lol!

Originally I wanted a multi tonal violet with darker violet roots, light violet everywhere else and a more silvery Violet in certain sections of my hair. But instead I've decided it will be easier to just go over all my hair with one colour.

At home I already have pravana violet and a tiny bit of MP rockabilly blue. Would these colours be okay? If I wanted to fade the purple a little in the future and do the silvery Violet ends like I originally wanted would it be too hard to fade? I know pravana can be pretty permanent but if it's diluted a lot will it still be hard to fade out? Should I go for directions Violet instead as a more easily fadeable option if I want to adjust the colour a little?

I also wanted to ask:
In the photo the girls have some sections of their hair which are a bit more silvery purple? Is this where they had slightly darker patches of hair so the purple didn't cover so well? I'm just wondering because if my slightly darker blonde sections of hair tuned out like that I would actually be happy.
Before putting the Violet over my blonde hair should I try tone it so it is as white blonde as possible? Or would it be fine over less toned hair?

Sorry if that wasn't very clear, I always find it hard being concise when I post!

Thanks in advance πŸ™‚

Where your base is more yellow, lilac will look silvery. If it is very dark it will look ash blonde or just muddy though. You will need a level 10 base for the colour in the pics.
I would say the silvery areas in those girls pics are actually where the colour has faded. Cool toned purples fade to silver then white if the base is light enough.
I wouldn't bother with separate toning, the lilac dye will tone as it dyes so save yourself a step.
Pravana Violet will last a LOT longer than Directions Violet, especially as a pastel. I would go with the Pravana, you will get more even coverage and you won't need to touch up the colour every couple of weeks. Pastels are high maintenance, so a long lasting dye is a huge advantage.

Okay that sounds alright then. I hope it fades to a nice silver. I know with certain purples it can fade green sometimes :/ I've heard this about directions Violet but I suppose it depends on everyone's hair too. I think the result in the 2nd to photos was straight after it had been dyed but I'm not sure about the first so maybe you're right about the colour fading a bit.
I have a few patches of hair that probably are a bit too yellow for such a light colour, could I just spot dye those bits with a less diluted pravana Violet mix to make them more purple? Rather than ash or muddy colour?

Thanks for the advise!

Usually you only get a green fade with blue based purples if the base is too yellow.
Can you post a pic of your current colour?

Sorry I've got a hair mask in so I cant take a photo πŸ˜› also annoyingly I can never get an accurate colour in photos. But most of my hair is light enough to take silver dye it's just a few bits on the inside of my hair which are a bit darker. I guess I'll have to try and see how it comes out! If it did fade to green, would it be hard to remove or would it just carry on fading out?

I've had a green fade from Directions Violet and SFX Wild Flower. It just fades out eventually (although me being me I just slapped another colour over the top). I don't think it happened with Pravana Violet though.

When I've used manic panic purple it always fades to a cornflour blue then a lilac and silver to grey if that helps much 😂

So I just wanted to carry on asking questions on this thread rather than making a whole new one.

I finally went for it and dyed my hair pastel purple! Yay! So this will be my first unnatural colour (I'm not gonna count red or silver). I was mostly happy with the colour and it was suprisingly not that shocking to catch my reflection throughout the day. (I think I got more freaked out when I went blonde lol)

Anyway, I liked the colour but it was a little too blue for my liking so I've faded it out to a silvery pastel blue. I made the mistake of adding a bit of MP rockabilly blue to the pravana Violet and conditioner mix when it didn't even need it. I did a strand test of applying diluted pravana Violet over my current base and left it on for like maybe 45 mins (I don't know if this was long enough) but it still seems blue because of my base I'm guessing.

Could I add a tiny hint of red in to make the purple warmer?
I've got MP infra red, MP rock n roll red, diluted MP wildfire and adore paprika

I would use pink. Unless you want a more wine/burgandy tone.

Yes, pink not red to make vivid purples. I use a magenta shade to add pink to lilac mixes, usually Rose Red by Directions (which has a misleading name, it isn't red at all) but any cool toned pink will do. If you add red you are also adding yellow tones (red is magenta plus yellow) and will get a more muted warm purple shade

Thanks for the advise! I didn't realise. Although unfortunately I added diluted MP wildfire as I needed to redye my hair asap and it was the only thing lying around. At least I know better for next time.

Anyway here's the final result:

@Emmer1321 thanks πŸ™‚

I thought I'd just ask another question on this thread since its related.

So I've started doing a darker violet on the roots and a lighter violet everywhere else so it looks more "natural" and blends with my dark roots better. Only thing is, when I use darker Pravana  violet, the colour looks a bit too vibrant for my liking. How can I make it a little more smokey looking but still dark so my roots don't look as bright. Could I mix in some pravana sliver or would that not work?

A smidge of blue based black maybe? I know there's something people use to do this, but the product name is alluding me at the moment.

I don't think silver will do anything, I'd think it's too light.

@Janineb thank you, I ended up going for pravana black as I heard it's supposed to help darken or tone down other colours
