Some of you know I get Adore often because it's cheap and local but I had noticed in the past that when I diluted it, it kind of 'creamed' and wouldn't apply evenly. I switched the conditioners and tried a few helpful tips form the community (thanks!) but it did still happen.
Tonight I did a cruella-ish dye and for the one part it was Adore and for the other, Raw Colors (which is suppperrr thick and saturated like SFX or Pravana, maybe thicker. The Adore barely covered at the ends as it creamed up, or if I applied at the ends first it would cream up and get spotty near by where I just added a dab. The Raw color though went on SO beautifully, I was in shock at how much easier life could be. I had also done this with Pravana in the past and it had me wondering why my next dye job after that with Adore had problems because the Pravana didn't. So maybe it's just me or the conditioners but it didn't happen with the other brands, or even if I mixed Adore with another brand it's fine. Hair was completely dry/no conditioners or oils etc. But alone Adore really only had worked for me evenly when it was undiluted. Even then, I remember the Pink Fire didn't cover my newest roots and they were a bit orange but the rest was nice.
I did cover the Adore section with a mix of the Raw and a few Adores to get a close enough shade. But I was wondering if anyone else experienced this since I'm a big fan of diluting.
It could be the conditioner you're using or how much you're using. I have taken to mixing Adore with conditioner instead of using it straight because it is so runny and find that it works great. I'm not really diluting it though, just thickening it up. I really only put in enough conditioner to make it more of a creamy consistency like Manic Panic.
The few times I have diluted Adore I used Manic Panic's clear mixer (because my conditioner is slightly yellow) and it didn't cover all that well but I figured I probably didn't mix it well enough or something.
It may just be that Adore doesn't like your hair. Some people definitely have better results with certain brands than others, it seems to be a very individual thing.
Well that's the thing, I use a silicone free conditioner and I notice that when I mix that same conditioner with other brands it's fantastic, and I get a great color pay off. Also when I use Adore undiluted it works fine too! It could be that I dilute kinda heavily so maybe it's too much conditioner to dye ratio? But something in the formulation doesn't work while if I heavily dilute something like Pravana, I can do mostly conditioner and a little dab of dye and still get coverage, so I found that weird. It works if I use a super amount of dye. Meaning, if I carefully apply the mix directly on without rubbing it, it will stain where it's put directly on, but won't slide where other brands the conditioner helps it slide a little and still transfer the dye. I don't know how to explain it, I just found that other brands glide more easily when diluted but I can't get adore to glide, it's like only the conditioner comes out and then it coats the hair so dye can't get on. And because I like to dilute I found myself having to redo my Adore dye jobs more frequently and that they were far more spotty.
I kinda get what you mean. I have a similar problem with Nrage dyes when trying to mix them with conditioner. The dye just won't deposit well because the pigment just doesn't seem to mix fully. However, I haven't had this issue with Adore... at least not yet.
Ive had this with Adore before. If you smush it into the ends it sort of froths to a creamy version of the colour you are using. Could you dilute it with water instead?
I've had it froth on my but the colour seems to still come out fine. It quite often looks a worrying colour while I'm applying it but then looks ok when washed off. It's odd.
i dont like adore at all, my hair seems to hate it. the colour only seems to last 2-3 washes and it looks really washed out, faded, dull and flat plus it made my scalp super tingley and ichy :S
