Obviously I'm not hoping to get a fire engine red or bright pink. I really want my hair red or green but I don't really want to bleach my hair. I was thinking of split dying my hair (think Melanie Martinez) but I would probably have to bleach and half of my hair would be more damaged than the other. Anyway, my hair is a very dark brown and I want to dye my hair. I might and up getting a box dye from the store at some point if my parents eventually let me dye my hair... Any tips?? π Oh, and I'm sorry if this question has been asked a lot. I just really wanna know.
Can you post a photo of your hair. Or at least an example of how dark it is? If it's too dark you won't get any colour to show on it at all. It will just look black with a hint of colour in the sun.
Directions Alpine Green shows up pretty well on my mid brown hair but it doesn't last more than a couple of washes on the bits that aren't already treated with a permanent dye (it lasts incredibly well on the bits that are dyed with a permanent brown dye). Special Effects Candy Apple Red also showed up on darker hair on me, but again didn't last very well on the virgin bits. Basically you're not going to end up with a colour that is in any way lighter or brighter than your base so if your hair is very dark brown you will get a sheen of colour at best. Would your parents not allow you to dip dye the ends of your hair? That way you could pre-lighten maybe 3 inches at the bottom and use any colour you liked and it would be very easy to grow out! Another way is to have a streak or slice of colour underneath your hair (I currently have most of my hair dyed brown but with a thick streak of green and purple in the underneath of one side so I can side part my hair to show it, or cover it up easily!
