On Monday I'm going to dip dye my friends hair.
Right now she has black virgin hair.
I'll be using matrix light master with 40vol developer and using foils and keeping it warm to get the maximum lightening.
I told her the lightest it will probably go is like orange at best.
What dye do you think would work best over that sort of base to get a dark pink? Also do I want a dark pink more on the purple side or neutral or red etc to go over an orangey/reddish base.

You won't need 40 vol with Light Master. I would use 30 at most. You will be surprised at how well it lifts.
Dark pinks will easily cover an orangey base, it will look more red though the more orange there is in the base. Something like Virgin rose or rose red will get you a similar shade, the purple tones help.

Not sure why you are using foils but to achieve that look just doesn't need such a high lift at all. I'd agree with wicked pixie and say you would need 30vol at the most.

Oh the foils are just to keep in the warmth and stop it drying out. I just automatically use them no matter what.
Oh yeah, even thought I've been using light master for a while now, I forget how well it lifts.
& cool thank you! A purple pink over orange makes sense (colour wheel and everything), I was having a bit of a mental block
