I've dyed my tips lilac and I'm in love. I've seen the violet Manic Panic colour and would love to go that shade but I'm totally new to this and not sure how you treat roots when they grow out? My hair is naturally dark and bleached blonde at the moment. Do you have to bleach the roots and colour the whole hair purple each time? And how hard would it be to colour over purple when I'm bored of it?

You bleach the roots. Wash it out without using conditioner. Then put the dye all over (you could leave the tips lilac though, a purple ombre would be pretty), leave that in for around 4 hours and rinse out.
It will, in theory wash out totally in time, but that often doesn't happen. But purple is a good start. Once it's faded it's easy to go blue, pink or red. If you wanted yellow, green, or orange you'd need to get it very pale or out completely if you want a pastel shade.
