New Hair: Turquoise and Royal Blue

Hey Guys,

I've been red and pink on and off for a couple of years now, with bouts of brown in between, and so I decided it's time to experiment with some of the colder colours.  I haven't been blue or purple for a very long time, and I wanted to layer at least two colours but I couldn't decide which to go for.  After a bit of thinking and perving on the BU galleries, I decided I wanted some kind of oceany or peacocky colour theme, so with BU shop being down I bought myself Stargazer UV Turquoise and Royal Blue.  I was a bit unsure about these because I've used one of the purples in the past and it didn't come out so good, but I thought 'if it doesn't work, I'll just get SFX Fishbowl and Blue Mayhem when I can, no big deal'.  Am I glad I didn't wait now!

Now make no mistake, before this my hair was faded Cherry Bomb, so it was VERY pinky-red.  I'd been washing it loads with different things and it was coming out, but I decided to do a bleach bath to see how light I could get it in one process...I must admit I didn't have high hopes as I usually only bleach when my hair is so faded that it's blonde and orange after 6-8 weeks.  So, I did the 50/50 bleach bath, I used L'Oreal Superblonde cause we already had some in the bathroom, and my god did it lift fast!  I only needed to leave it on 15 minutes for it to go blonde with bright orange ends.  Admittedly there were a few small patches of stubborn blondey-pink, but I wasn't gonna let that bother me, I'd rather try and keep my hair in reasonable condition.  So, I left Stargazer toner on my hair overnight to neautralise the orange, and when I woke up my hair was pretty even...the roots were a little whiter and the ends were light blonde with the slightest tinge of pink in some parts, so I decided to proceed with the colour.

I put the UV Turquoise on the top half and the Royal Blue underneath, and left for about an hour.  It's covered REALLY well.  I thought there was going to be some areas where the dye wouldn't take because of the pink, but nope!  Here are some fairly rubbish pictures cause I took them last night in a dark room, but the colour's pretty accurate:

I'll le you know how it fades out, etc!

I've never been able to do a bleachbath before, is it half bleach (both powder n liquid) and half water?

Shampoo, not water, but if you're applying it to dry hair you can add a bit of water to lather up the shampoo a bit

Yep, what sins n needles said.  I don't bother using any water because my hair is pretty short, but for your hair you might need to dampen your hair a bit to lather.

I know! I can't believe how easy it was too!  My hair seems to work really well with veggie dies, and hates permanent dyes (perms don't stick to my natural blonde roots at all!).  To be honest I think being naturally blonde helps, because it means any root regrowth basically doesn't need to lift to dye nicely, it just needs damaging a little bit with a bleach bath the let the colour in.  I love bleach baths...honestly they're so much better for your hair, and make the bleaching process very even.

Brilliant results - I am not surprised you are very pleased with it.
Both colours look great but that UV turquoise is amazing and is now high on my 'to-do' list πŸ˜€

Gothicle - sins_n_needles posted a great guide on bleach baths which show what's needed and the step by step process - Bleach Bath Guide with Photos

Meant to say, great colours by the way lou! I really wanna try blue sometime but my manager is getting on my back about the purple I have just now. Dont know why, you can hardly see it for my cap and hairnet, maybe she thinks I'll scare people away, hahaha!

Yeah Nickki it's a lovely colour.  I'd say it was a bit more green than the kinds of turquoises I've seen before, like Fishbowl or Capri Blue, but I like that, gives it a different dimension and really brings out your eyes, whatever colour they are.

Sins n needles: Oh I'd hate to be restricted by work like that...I used to work in a sales office but they loved the way I changed my hair all the time and it was always very neat and tied up.  I'm a student now so, anything goes!
