I have yellow gold, shiny hair. Now all I need to do is steal some porridge.
I did my bleach 20 vol with Loreal blue bleach. Correct amount of time. End first, then roots. Rinsed, conditioned. It was golden orange at this rate. Then I toned it down with Wella's 18 toner with 20vol developer. It took majority of the orange out, except at the ends which now have a bit of a pink tone to them. I found the toner was much more harsh on my scalp than the bleach.
My hair is in very good condition considering. Well I have curly hair so I deep condition constantly and I did while bleaching as well. I hadn't dyed my hair in nearly a year and I repaired the hell outta my hair. So my damage is very minimal.
I have dark, almost black hair. I wanted a lighter shade for the summer but of course in order to do that I would have to bleach and tone my hair. I don't mind going white but I do have some Wella Caramel gel permanent color I would like to use. But I am willing to wait.
My question is... How do I tone down the gold and address the ends of my hair? Or am I stuck with it because it seems to be genetic? My daughters have the gold in their virgin hair too but they are blondies already (lucky kiddos).
I was thinking since my hair is in pretty good condition I was thinking of a bleach wash and then toning shampoos? Then should I go lighter or try too dye it with the Caramel blond?
Thanks for the input!
The reason the toner felt harsher than the bleach is because you were double processing - your hair and scalp had already undergone a process. Conditioning will help it feel better (especially if its full of silicones) - but when damage is done, it's done. You can help maintain it but you can't reverse it. Right now, you are "scaffolding" the damage.
If you want to achieve a good look with healthy hair you need to wait a few weeks before you use anything else - we would advise at least a month, between using products containing peroxide.
Black to white blonde for the summer is a huge mission in my opinion, it took me up to a year to go black to pink and even then I incurred some damage and didnt need a white base.
I would personally leave it for a little longer than a month and assess your hair at that point. It can take weeks for damage to show.
We tend not to recommend oxidative toners here, especially straight after bleaching as it is double processing. As you have found out your scalp and hair are extremely vulnerable and sensitive directly after bleaching.
Try making your own toner from a violet direct dye diluted with conditioner. It is totally non-damaging so you can leave it on as long as you like and you can control the strength and tailor the mix to your hair.
If you decide to do another chemical process (bleach, permanent dye etc) wait at least a month from your last bleaching. It can take around a month for any damage to show up.
Just wash the ends of your hair with shampoo to get the pink tones out.
If you can post a pic of your current colour it will be easier to advise on where to go next. What is your goal colour?
My hair isn't stranger going from dark to light in less than a week with minimal damage. Thank God for that. But this is the 1st time I've gone light with ALL of my hair. The ONLY time I have problems with bleach is when I've let them use heat and no top notch hair products. Not treating my curly hair is worse than bleaching my hair. I've maintained my curl and that says a lot. I REFUSE to use cheap hair products because I know my porosity and curl type and I get a lot of hair dresser who think they know and then just screw my hair up.
I did do a bleach wash this morning, my hair is still damp but it seemed to lift the end of my hair which what I was aiming for. I am still not sure if I am aiming for white or if I just want to dye it blond. I am not washing my hair for a week with repair masks and most likely either doing another bleach wash or dying it then. We will see when my hair is dry.
I can try to take a pic but my phone is pretty toast right now and the color tones are off... I just bought an Iphone5.
Oh this is my color now, I don't have a working rear camera any more so it's not the greatest quality. Any suggestions are welcomed! I am still not washing and only doing deep treatements and oils to seal my hair.

Well I don't know what to say really, it seems you already have decided on what you are doing. Good luck.
I imagine that no one will give you a recommendation you want to hear.
Actually I would... you do forget that some people's hair does stand up better to bleaching than others. Not everyone's hair is alike. I know my follicle health a wee bit better than others and I know I can dye and bleach the hell outta my hair before I see massive damage. I get more damage to my hair by brushing it than dying it simply because I have curly hair.
That doesn't mean I am going to do a full bleach again anytime soon. I would just like to know what I would do next when the time comes. Geesh.
I definitely don't forget that people have different hair types. We have people coming on here asking for advice with many different hair types, and obviously only you know what your hair can take. It's ridiculous the amount of people who come on here asking how to go from dark to light, ignore the good advice from the members then ask about reconstructing their hair a month after.
Going forward my suggestion is that you clarify your hair to assess any damage, and wait at least a month before you use any peroxide based treatment on your hair, that includes low bleach baths and toners.
