Toning will not keep in my hair!

Before people tell me how to properly bkeach my hair, I've bleached my successfully many many times since I was 11 I know what Im doing to some degree. This time however I've ran I to several bumps in the road I never have before. I've bleached my hair SEVERAL times over the span of a few months and this time it refuses to process past a certain level! No matter what and I've never had this happen before. The Toning is doing nothing at all! Just a few days ago I settled to bleach once more and it was very light, perfect to tone (I use the Wella T18), after the amount of time and money I've spent this time around I was beginning to get irritated, the toner made my hair a nice white (closer to what I was wanting but not quite, it would have to do.) I left it in for thirty minutes as I usually do (I've never gotten a lilac hue a lot of people have issues with), my hair is titanium unfortunately. Anyways the next day my hair was a darker yellow than before I bleached and toned Im TICKED right off and wondering what on earth is going on. This is ridiculous and seems almost like a curse πŸ™ and I do upkeep with the purple shampoo and all that jazz, also thinking about picking up some Roux White Minx stuff to see if it helps. Anyone have any idea what's going on or some inexspensive tips (Im broke for a while) I was just going to give in and use the Born Blonde with cool tones to see if it helps but if constant bleaching and toning won't even lift it one level I don't even want to bother. This is bazaar... Thanks in advance πŸ˜€

A pic of your hair would really help. What peroxide are you using with the T18?

I'm having the same issue! I want white hair and while my hair is a very very light platinum I can't seem to get it to white even with toner.

Do you have red in your hair? I'm a strawberry blonde and I'm wondering if that's the issue

Damaged hair will not hold color properly. that includes toners

Surprisingly since I've been doing it over a period and doin lost of masques and deep conditioning my hair isn't even that damaged yet I've had it go a lot smoother with gummy hair before :/ I have red undertones in natural chocolate brown hair πŸ™ I even stripped my hair before taking this on again. It may be a bad idea but I think I'm jut going to throw a box ash-blonde on this and hope for the best.

bleach damage can take a while to show, so even if the process was slow, you can still get damage. The same thing happened to me when I went white. I eventually did get it white but parts of my hair didnt want to tone. I had to let it rest for 3 months, before it took evenly.
I wouldn't use anymore peroxide if I were you. you would be better off finding an ash toner which does not contain peroxide or using a dye by adore.

Edit: if your hair is not the color of the inside of a banana, then you are better off trying blue toners instead of the purple ones.

Constantly bleaching and using box dye is unlikely to help. What colour is your hair under the toners? We really need a pic to advise.
You said it is already 'very light' if that is true there is no need to use any further peroxide based products. It is perfectly possible to tone bleached hair without oxidative toners, and much safer for your hair.

When hair has been very processed, two specific things can happen:-

1.  The most notable is the cuticle has become so processed it remains in a permanently raised or even destroyed state.  In this state, it become impossible for the hair to hold blue or violet direct dye pigments needed for toning.  Instead, they simply wash out.  Using peroxide or ammonia based products to tone will make this issue even worse - as it will just keep raising the cuticle or damaging it further.

2.  The other issue I come across is 'locked down' hair.  In this situation, silicone has been used (at some point) on the hair and it's coating the surface and preventing toning.  A big problem is emerging with these lightening blonde or platinum hair colourants as they contain polymers and silicones that sit within and on the hair.  Therefore, if they do not lighten enough the platinum tones cannot neutralise, however the hair has been 'locked down' and will not accept tone.

My first piece of advice is to clarify the hair well and then try to tone.  At some point you should find the toning working, but if it's due to damage, you might have to give a mild tone after each wash.

Kind Regards

Scott Cornwall
