Backstory:
I dyed my hair dark for years, and I decided last year to start growing it out/slowly transition to a lighter colour. I have about 6" of new growth on top, and I did a ColourB4/bleach bath ombre combo over the past month or so to bring the ends up lighter. So now I have my normal dishwater blonde colour on top, gradating out into a orangey ombre from the bleaching.
I've been using violet shampoos/conditioners which works well, but I want to tone it down to a more neutral colour without having to use a dye that has any more bleach in it. I live in Canada though so we don't have Sally's or any of the usual recommendations.
Does anyone have any good recommendations for products available in Canada? I was wondering if Ice Cream Kromask would be enough, though I'm not sure if I should get the ash blonde one or the violet one. Does anyone know if the Ice Cream dyes have bleach in them? Nothing else at the Shoppers Drug Mart here looks super promising.
I've never heard of the brand, but a quick look on their website makes it sound like they're a coloured conditioner, so a true semi. Usually, if you don't have to do any mixing, the dyes won't lighten your hair.
That being said, it will be more cost effective to buy a blue/purple dye and mix it with conditioner to make your own toner. That way, you can adjust the colour and strength to match your hair specifically. What a toner will do is tone down the ginger to a neutral shade, but if you want to take it lighter, you won't be able to do that without bleach. If you do decide to try to bleach it, bleach baths are less damaging and give you more control ... however, bear in mind that your hair may very well be stained from the darker dyes and won't lift past a certain shade.
