Started bleaching then chickened out - what to do now?

In February, I took the plunge and had my hair dyed from virgin dull-blonde to purple and turquoise. So far, I've maintained the colour at home and let my hairdresser take care of the bleaching/rootsy business. Now, though, I'm strapped for cash and a bit disillusioned with hairdressers in general, and so I decided to try and take care of my 2cm-ish of conspicuous regrowth by myself.

I spent days reading and watching Youtube tutorials, and thought I had the hang of it. I got together my 20 vol mixture, a jar of coconut oil and a ton of mirrors. All good to go, except...

:-[

I started applying the bleach when I noticed that I'd slightly overlapped with my already-blue bits. I panicked and rinsed it off instantly under the tap. I decided to just do the most conspicuous rootsy-bits for now, then panicked again (for no good reason, this time) and rinsed the whole lot off in the shower with clarifying shampoo. The bleach can't have been on my head for more then 5-7 minutes total.  I know my roots lifted a bit, but not nearly as much as I need them to, and obviously I didn't do all of them

So...erm... help?

How do I fix this? Do I just wait a bit, watch more tutorials and try again? Should I find some way of practising first? How do I deal with those bits that have already been partially-lifted? Or should I toddle off to someone who will charge through the nose and probably piss me off but will, at least, not freak out whilst doing the job?

Maybe practice with a conditioner? Bits that have been already lifted need bleach-application at the very end. I.e. you first apply it to the places you haven't bleached at all, and then go onto the ones you processed a bit.

Maybe ask a friend? I'm thinking of harassing a friend from work actually to do my roots for me XD good luck!

You can definitely practice with conditioner to get yourself more comfortable with it, like many cosmetology students first start off doing! It will get much easier the more you do it

We have a Root Tutorial on this site.

The first time I did roots, it was slightly intimidating, but I quickly realised it's no different than just colouring your hair--you're just doing a much smaller area, is all.  Slight overlap is ok and normal, so don't freak out next time ^_^

I would leave it a week or two for your hair to settle, as you had a low volume and didn't have the bleach on for long at all, then try it again and leave the already done bits to the very end.
