It depends what you are sensitive to. You might find ammonia free bleach helps.
I find plenty of coconut oil on the scalp really cuts down on irritation, others swear by adding artificial sweetener sachets to the bleach mix.
I doubt the developer is the issue tbh

What does adding artificial sweetener do? I haven't heard of that.

I am not sure TBH, some say it is because it lowers the pH, but lots of things could do that so i suspect it is more complex than that.
Artificial sweeteners contain saccharin (pH 2) cream of tartar aka potassium bitartrate (pH 3.5) and dextrose (pH 3.5-5) so all pretty low pH.
Using an ammonia free bleach would have the same effect.

I always soak my hair in virgin coconut oil the night before bleaching, I was using truzone blue bleach powder with 20 vol developer. That sometime made my head feel a bit sensitive. I have swopped to Matrix lightening powder bleach and had a bit of a sore head after that. I cannot seem to find any ammonia free developers 20 vol on line.

Have you tried cream bleach? I have seen a few of them that say they are for sensitive scalps.

No, I mean ammonia free bleach. I doubt there is anything in the developer you are sensitive to.
MLM is a powerful bleach, did you drop down a level of developer or dilute with shampoo/conditioner?

No, I have only ever used 20 vol. It didnt hurt me using the matrix, my head just felt a bit sore the next day.

Would an oil based developer do any good or not.

Oil developers such as INOA are to be used specifically with oil based dyes of the same brand, do not use with your bleach powder.

For your sensitive scalp I would recommend trying a creme lightener such as Wella Blondor or Joico Vero K-Pak Creme Lightener if you can't get hold on an ammonia-free lightener. With these you can use a standard 20 vol creme developer (Absolutely NO higher for use on scalp. I would actually try a 10 vol as you're sensitive). It is the *bleach* that is causing sensitivity, not the developer.
