Hi all,
Browsing Poundland today I noticed they had bleach kits, 'ultimate blonde permanent lightener' by Mellor & Russell. I almost picked up a packet to do a bleach bath on my ends with, thinking I might as well for a pound. But then I started second guessing; the box, like a lot of bleach kits seem to, doesn't state what volume the developer is, thought it does say maximum lifting so I'm guessing it's strong, and I'm slightly dubious about how safe it is.
Has anybody tried this before and can share their experience?
Bleach is the one product where you get what you pay for.
Cheap bleach doesn't give as much lift and is much more damaging than professional quality bleach. Add in the fact that it will be 30 or 40 vol peroxide, and you see why so many people fry their hair with cheap drugstore bleaches.
I would invest in a really good bleach, I only pay around a tenner for 500g of Matrix light master, which probably works out cheaper than your Poundland bargain.
Having said that, I have used various mellor and russell products and they are ok, just as good as some that are three times the price. Still wouldn't risk the bleach though π
Yeah, I'd stay well away.
Maybe someone could try it out on an old pair of extensions or something! I don't use them so I can't π
Mellor and Russell have a website with a phone number and a contact form, you could always ask them about the developer!
Yeah, I saw their faq page when I was looking for reviews. Some of their answers seemed a bit odd to me but maybe I'm just suspicious. People seem to have had good results with their dyes, but I couldn't find a review for the bleach. Perhaps everyone has steered clear XD
A lot of people seem to buy their bleach in bulk, does seem better in the long run. I may start doing that if I'm going to need bleach fairly regularly in the future.
I don't wear extensions either, or I'd try that XD
I've actually used that when I've been too skint to buy new good bleach, but I only used it for bleach baths with 20vol developer I already had. It worked fine for a mild bleach bath, but it obviously wasn't great. Definitely worth buying better bleach if it's an option.
Yeah I just used to invest in a bucket of bleach powder and a big bottle of developer a couple of times a year, I used to share with friends and it lasts ages and works out a fraction of the price! I don't imagine the poundshop one would do much harm if you used it like Marthakins for a bleach bath or for a dip dye or something, but I think it'd be a brave person who did a full bleach with it!
I remember using a mellor and Russell bleach - the damage was irrepaiable π
