How does the dr know it was definitely the hair dye? Unless you/he does an allergy test with the hair dye he doesn't definitely know. I would guess the combination of drinking/bleaching may have affected you more than the dye itself. I would do some small tests (dye and bleach separately) on my arm like others have said to know for sure.

He'll be assuming it's a PPD allergy. I didn't think that Crazy Colour had PPD, but it could have something else she's allergic to even if it doesn't.

I bet he's seen a lot of PPD allergies, so I can understand the assumption. Though it is a bit lazy/short sighted. With the short amount of time docs have for appointment these days it's not wildly surprising.

The doctor can't know what caused the allergy, he's guessing.  GP's have to make a quick assessment and they have to keep costs in mind before sending a patient for further tests which I guess I understand.  However he could be wrong!

Exactly, he really should not be telling you "It's definitely the hair dye" when it could be the bleach, the Kerastase, if she used latex gloves, or anything else. So what happens if you think it's the dye( based on his assumption that he's deeming as true), and you have your hair bleached again, use the kerastase again or whatever it was, not using that dye at all and you have the same allergic reaction? He cannot say it definitely is something when it really could have been any of those things or something else, without doing any testing at all. That's a huge liability on his part and that is potentially risking you life because what, testing costs? No, I would definitely get some testing done to make sure of what it was so this doesn't happen again. I mean, what if it was the bleach or the Kerastase or even something you ate + you're at home by yourself, thinking you'll be totally safe because he said it was just the dye, and you have an allergic reaction? They can be very, very bad! I had a roommate whose entire face and neck swelled up in just moments + by the time the ambulance got there it was too late. I don't mean to harp but I really would get testing done so you know for sure what it is you are allergic to so you can avoid it like the plague

What wonderful people there are on this forum! Well, I have an update. I have finally got the symptoms nearly under control with a strong antihistamine, which I do get odd side effects from, but rather them than a body full of blisters and massive hives. They were so big they joined together and covered my entire thigh areas, HORRID. Bizarrely I was at the chemists and the pharmacist was saying 'don't dye your hair again it's that' and a girl behind me went 'oh yes, I have terrible allergies too, worse than you I bet!' so I asked her what to and like me, she's 'allergic' to antibiotics. I asked whether she gets anaphylaxis or hives and she said she got 'thrush'. I wanted to slap her. I'd take thrush any day over this misery!

Sorry, i'm getting off the point πŸ˜‰ Basically I called up L'oreal, and guess what!!! They're sending me to a private allergy doctor. He's not going to test anything outside of a l'oreal product, but at least i'll know for once and for all what i'm allergic too, as in, whether its the Platine or something else. Also, thats a very interesting point about the keratase, as i've never had that treatment before, but I assumed you couldn't be allergic to a conditioning treatment.

So I have to deduce whether it was one of the following

L'Oreal Platine
Kerastase Intense Rirtual In Salon Treatment
Crazy Colour Violette
Crazy Colour Lilac
Crazy Colour Bubblegum Blue
Manic Panic Turquoise

Bloody hell. Thats quite the job. What if t wasn't the bleach!!! How will I be able to find out!!!

There has to be a dr somewhere that can test the other things for you. You could do it yourself, swipe just a tiny amount of one of the products on+ wait a week to see if anything happens. Then you can do another the next week, and the next, and so on. The alcohol likely exacerbated it though + probably made it worse than it would have been. Ypu just need to test one thing at a time if ypu do it at home especially

It's brilliant that they're doing that for you, I'm really glad you're going to be able to get an answer on this!
