Highlights/bleach over Adore Plus

Well, I've just had an interesting 5 and a half hours in the hairdresser.  I'd been using Adore Plus on my hair but decided the upkeep of my roots was a nightmare, so I wanted it lightened or highlights put in.

The highlights turned bright pink - the poor hairdresser's face was a picture and I just laughed (nothing else to do really).

She has fixed it now and it's beautiful but why on earth would the bleached bits go pink???? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Direct dyes often turn unexpected colours when bleached. The bleach breaks down the pigments at different rates, the strongest underlying pigment in the dye you used would have been red or pink. Fading is always recommended with direct dyes before using bleach

Ahh, thanks.  The Adore Plus dye was green based BUT back in January, I'd gone to a different hairdresser (never again) and she had put an overall tint on it - who knows what colour or what brand because she certainly didn't and I took a bad reaction to it - either that or she didn't rinse it properly because the back of my head was all blistered.  Maybe it was that that caused the reaction to the bleach

Well assuming the dye wasn't actually green (as far as I know adore plus is only available in natural shades, and even green dyes will have some red pigment) there would have been red pigments in it too. These must have been stronger, which is why they remained in the hair after the other pigments had been removed.

Thank you - I didn't know that.  You live and learn hahaha.  I've traumatised the poor hairdresser though.

Most hairdressers are not overly familiar with direct dyes lol

The question now is, will it stay pink? Or will it fade?

The funny thing is, my niece had made up too much pink for her own hair a couple of months ago and asked me if I wanted pink - no, I'm too old for that I said hahahahahahaha

It will most likely fade, but unfortunately, bleaching direct dyes can force them deeper into the he hair so it might take longer and possibly not fade out completly.

There's no such thing as too old for any colour!

Secretly I really wanted to put the pink in but I reckoned it wouldn't colour the greys and that's why I didn't do it hahaha.

Grey hair can be resistant, but there are ways of helping them to take the dyes such as pre-softening or washing with something like bicarb beforehand

The Adore Plus was an epic fail I have to say.  Did everything I was meant to and nothing.
