Hi there,
I am currently sat here with waist length orangy hair complete with yellow ends and pale yellow roots and wondered if someone could advise me on my next step. My hair is dry but other than that feels in good condition (I have made friends with a huge tub of coconut oil).
My natural hair colour is a light to medium brown. 3/4 years ago, I had a lovely mobile hairdresser who used to foil me up every couple of months so I had a full hair of blonde hair. Then she moved away and I lost my job so couldn't afford trips to the salon. I dyed my hair with a permanent medium brown box dye three time over the years since until May 2013 when I decided to let my roots grow out. The dye had faded and my roots were a similar colour to my hair.
Then my fiance and I started planning our wedding for September and I got the urge to go back to the blonde hair I had when we first met. Saving for our wedding meant no money for a salon and I decided to do it at home. I first of all used a colour remover twice before leaving a fortnight and bleach bathing.
Since, I've bleach bathed another 3 times (once a fortnight with 20vol) and a fortnight after the last BB, I did a full bleach (with 20vol). Now I know I can't bleach again for another month or so but I wondered if I should try another colour remover to see if it will remove the bright orange and yellowness from my hair? Or is it too late for that?
Also any recommendations for toners/how to tone my hair to get to the colour of the photo attached.
Thanks so much in advance!
It's always worth trying a third colour remover, but after three times they're not going to do anything further.
It's difficult to advise regarding toners without seeing a picture of your current hair.
I would definitely try another color remover, it sounds like there's either some still left in your hair (the orangey midlengths) or you may have a little staining or both. I would get some moisture back into your hair before doing it though, use a reconstructor once or twice over the next month until you can bleach again to even it out more. For toning though a photo would really help π
Thanks for your responses, what is the best way to get some moisture back? Any particular brand or product that you recommend? Also, is there a reconstructor I can buy at boots either online or in store (I have lots of points to spend) or should I just buy the kpak product I've seen mentioned?
I've tried taking a photo but my camera isn't picking the colour up properly. I will try again tomorrow when the light is a little better!
I am not sure if boots sells joico... eBay is a place where you can get it
I would get the Joico, IMO it really is the best reconstructor. Especially since your hair is so long, you'll want to use good things on it during this process to help maintain the integrity as best as you can.
For moisture, pure, edible/cooking coconut oil works great. I think I've seen UK members say they have bought it from Boots or Superdrug or somewhere like that before. It's cheap too, usually around $6 for a huge tub of it, I think the price is pretty much the same over there too. Argan oil is great too but much more expensive for 100% pure Argan oil. Both are the only oils capable of fully absorbing into the hair. You can slather the coconut oil on and keep it on overnight, coat your hair in conditioner in the morning, working it through like shampoo and rinse it out a half hour later to take the oil out. You can use it too a couple hours at least before bleaching, just slather it on, wait, then bleach right over it - it really helps minimize the damage π
The coconut oil sold as a hair product is hydrogenated, I don't know how this affects it's performance on hair. I get virgin coconut oil from the local health food shop, it is safe to use on my hair and skin, and also for cooking, plus I give it to my dogs and use it for minor skin problems on all the animals so it is handy to have in. I got my last lot of argan oil from Holland and Barrett when they had their penny sales on. (Β£13 for two) i have also had some good cheap argan oil from Ebay, but a lot of sellers sell vegetable oil labelled as argan oil so you have to be careful.
I will go for the Joico then, it sounds worth it. How often do you recommend using the coconut oil? I have a big tub of organic virgin cold pressed stuff which is lovely (smells so good haha).
Thanks for the tip about argan oil, Wicked Pixie, I will continue using coconut for now and maybe get some argan oil from H&B when they next have an offer.
Luckily, my hair is naturally oily and before I started bleaching I had to wash it every day. Since my first BB though I've only been washing twice a week, so it's mainly my ends that are dry. I do plan on getting a good cut asap to prevent split ends.
**Update**
I've linked to some photos of my hair (they won't up load...apologies, it's greasy and uncombed in the photos), you can see the orange and yellow tones.
Any advice on what to do next would be gratefully received!
