Some context: I am growing out my hair, and I've been super careful with it. For past 7 months I've bleached it twice. Once in March, and once a week ago. It's super healthy.
Here's the problem.
The plan was to have it purple and turquoise/green but what it ended up as was just green (diluted Lagoon Blue over faded Plum) and a few slightly blue patches (diluted Hot Purple from CC but it sucked, coverage-wise). It's way, way darker than I wanted it to be.
How would I go about lightening it to a brighter base without bleaching it?
For your reference, the first pic is indoors, with flash so you can see that my roots are yellow and did not pick the color at all.
The second and third pics are indoors without flash so you can see the colors a tad more accurately.
Any help at all?
I've tried to read extensively about this and I really want to avoid bleaching, but would a bleach bath be the best way to go about it without risking a lot of damage?
My hair looked very similar color wise to yours before I added dark blues to it. I suggest trying out bleach powder and shampoo to get rid of the color build up (loon in the tutorials section) and leaving it for a month before starting the bleach baths. If it ends up very uneven, like mine did, just put a forgiving darker color and let it fade for a month.
Yes, a bleach bath is a good way to go.
For pastels you have to have a white base or they just won't show. So you need to bleach to a pale yellow (inside banana colour) and then tone to white.
You can put coconut oil on your for min of an hour (lots of people here put it on over night) before bleaching/bleach bathing. Don't wash it off, put the bleach right over it. That helps minimise damage.
I will try a bleach bath, then. For reference: I'm not looking for pastels, just want to have it brighter and more even. I've had white hair before and the maintenance was terrible and really screwed up my ends.
Thank you for the input!
Ok, fair enough π But for the paler/bright blues you need white anyway.
