Hi all,
I've been dying my hair black now for about ten years I do sometimes use Xxl but I rarely use straighteners or a hairdryer I usually leave my hair to dry naturally. I've used colour b4 in the past but I was very hasty then and didn't know about this forum and was expecting miracles and when it didn't work I dyed it back black 🙄 Last time it went a gingery colour on top but the ends were still a deep red. I'm on maternity leave now so I have more time on my hands to persist with it, I've ordered three colour b4's just incase I've also been washing my hair in head and shoulder for the past week or so what else do you guys think I should get to be prepared? I just want to go a light brown shade of possible. What toner would cover the orange dark red? Or if I can get the dark red out and I'm just left with orange do you think a violet shampoo then a toner? Also what's the best hair conditioner is it kpak? Shall I use this before or after or both? If I'm left with the deep red on the ends shall I try a bleach bath? If it's not to much I think I'll prop have it cut of to avoid using bleach. Thanks in advance guys for your help xx
It is possible to go from dyed black to lighter shades, but black dyes do tend to stain especially if you color all the hair rather than just the roots. The more layers of dye, the harder it is to get out.
Start by clarifying the hair to remove any silicone build up etc. Then apply the colour remover, keep it covered, keep it warm and keep it on for the full hour. Rinse like crazy in hot water keeping the hair moving.
I would wait at least a week before doing the next round, and wash your hair several times with dandruff or clarifying shampoo.
If you still have a lot of colour in the ends after three rounds, a gentle bleach bath just on those parts may help. One more colour remover after bleaching can get a lot of the remaining colour out too.
If you want an ash or neutral toned brown then you need the baee to be at least one shade lighter. So if you can get to a warm toned level 7 you can achieve an ash or neutral level 6 brown. (possibly a neutral 7) You may need to fill the lighter parts with a red shade so you have an even base if your ends remain darker
Ok what clarifying shampoo do you recommend? And do you think in between using the colour b4's I should use a good deep conditioner mask to keep the hair well? Also this is prob a stupid question but when you say level 7 and 6 how do I know what shades are what level is it like the nice and easy toners where they say 7a shade that would be a level 7? Would I just see what colour my hair is and match it to a shade of their dyes to tell? I don't even mind what shade of brown I go I just want rid of the black now. I'm hoping I get a good result but I have been doing a full head application every time but I have had a lot cut off at Christmas. I'm hoping I don't get to the bleach bath stage as years ago I used to get highlights and my hair dressers always said my hair was hard to take on bleach she had to use the high vol and leave it on for ages it was like straw after a while lol
