Getting Rid of Orangey-Gold Hair.

This is my hair now (Orangey-gold)

This is what I want it to be (Dark Blonde)
Do I bleach it again? Do I tone/dye it? What do I do?

Tay.

Ahhh, I might be able to lend a bit of advice!

I've recently found two semi-permanent dyes that, when used as toners, give an amazingly ashy tone to gingery-yellow blonde hair:

- Nirvel ArtX Nutre Color in Grey
- Pravana Silver

You want to look for some silvering products (like Touch of Silver), or purple dyes and dilute them with conditioner.  Silvering dyes are purple, and as purple is opposite to orange/yellow on the colour wheel, it helps neutralise the brassiness.

I experimented quite a lot with silvering products and various purples, and I found most were a bit too saturated in colour, so they seemed to leave a blue/greenish hint to my hair.  The Touch of Silver worked quite well when left on for a while, but the two above products seemed to hit the mark as being as neutral as you can get!

The Pravana Silver is a deeper, more neutral purple, and you only need to mix a little bit with white conditioner for it to neutralise brassiness.  But the Nirvel is my favourite ever!  It's even more neutral and, though it is called 'grey', it is indeed purple but not as saturated.  You only need a small drop of that as well to neutralise brassiness.

If you want dark blonde, you're nearly there, and no need to bleach again... just experiment with some toners and you'll be there!  I've found the less "white" the hair is, the more dye you need in the toner to neutralise it, but I'd say add little by little till you achieve what you're after.

Good luck, and hope to see some 'after photos'. :-*

P.S.  Now looking at your photo again, you just may want to bleach bathe once to lighten just a bit, but do see what other say too... I'd say you're nearly there though.

I think it does make a difference to make sure you look at the colour of the dye when it comes out of the bottle, as normally the saturation you see is the colour you get!  A couple of topics I started that might help, including pictures of what the dye looks like when it comes out of the bottle:

Silvering Semis
Toning Down with Natural Blond

And a picture of the Nirvel vs Pravana products:
