Dyeing regrowth to get rid of harsh line

I've got about an inch and a half of regrowth, so it's about time I dye my roots.

I don't want to do all my roots, because I like a little bit of regrowth showing. (It freaks me out when I see my hair so light against my scalp xD, and also it looks less contrasty with my dark eyebrows).

Right now there's a harsh line between my dyed blonde hair and natural dark brown regrowth.
I was wondering how I could dye my roots so I don't get a dead straight line (but without it looking really bizarre and random!)

I have a side parting, but I usually try mess my hair up so the parting isn't dead straight. This helps my regrowth look less harsh and straight, but I would prefer if it was still less straight.

Sorry if the answer is really obvious. I just wanted some tips for dyeing my regrowth so it doesn't have a harsh line but doesn't look strange and really zigzagy :p.

Thanks πŸ™‚

(I've attached a picture so you can roughly see what kind of thing I'm after)

You could backcomb the bit between your roots and the part you want to bleach, a lot of people recommend that for ombre styles to get the line less even so I think it would work for you.

If you are planning on keeping your roots bleached it will make it much harder to touch up if you backcomb or whatever now.
I would leave the majority of the roots and just bleach the hairline and parting, then the old roots will peek through but you will be able to re-touch more easily next time (as you will have straight lines to work with)

@marthakins oh yeah, thanks, I didn't think about that! Although, if I backcomb, won't I end dyeing over already pre-lightened bits? It seems kinda hard to avoid.

@wickedpixie That's true, I have thought that keeping straight lines would make it far easier to retouch. I did actually consider just doing my hairline completely and most of my parting (leaving 1/4-1/2") as a easy option. Even with that photo it looks like she could have longer regrowth on the insides of her hair.

I suppose I could just do those bits and see how it looks. Plus by keeping the showing regrowth the main bits I retouch I can get anyway with leaving my inside bits a lot longer as I will have to do them less frequently! πŸ˜€ thank you I really like your suggestion

Maybe I could even keep straight lines for most of my hair, then literally just on my parting area have a more uneven line, just to keep it fairly easy? Hmm, could I apply dye with my brush in vertical lines?
