Hey everyone, i thought i would share my expeience (and some photos) of removing black to go red.
I personally searched everywhere on the internet, reading up on everything before even attempting this.
I was scared haha .
Anyway 3 years ago I had dyed my hair permanent black, and it built up from there,
Then i dyed half of it red, then back to black, then my fringe green, blue, pink and purple.
But always back to black.
So there was a weird mixture of colour and black build up.
My hair had also grown a lot since I had gone dark, which I loved.
1 month ago i got fed up with how the regrowth looked every time it came through, being naturally light blonde it always looked skunky, haha.
So the journey begins.
I began washing my hair with anti dandruff shampoo for every wash, just to try and loosen up some of the black.
There was no noticeable change, but I figured it couldn't hurt.
Next I bought 3 boxed of jo baz, the max strenght one.
The first picture is after that π
So it took about 4 inches to my natural colour, and the rest was still black, but it now looks red in the sun π
I waited a few days and did another jo baz, as the following picture shows.
Now it looks red in real life.
My roots look red in this for some reason, but they weren't.
Now, I know i should have used jo baz a 3rd time, But I will admit I was incredibly impatient, If you get the choice please use it all 3 times, I'm lucky I got the result I did, But I should have waited.
I soaked my hair all over with coconut oil, let it sit for an hour, and proformed some 30 vol strand tests in different places of my hair, and they all turned out ginger, a nice ginger to colour with a red ;3,
I unfortunatly didn't take any photos of them.
I slept all night with coconut oil in my hair. Woke up all greasy, but it was worth it!
So applyed 30 volume all ober my hair, starting with my lenghts, then my roots.
Washed it out after 45 minutes, and here are my roots.
Nice and white, with green tinges on my top layers.(I assumed left over from dying my fringe green, even though it was over 6 months ago!)
The rest of my lenghts were a gingery light brown.
Slapped Crazy Colour red straight over it, washed it out, slapped on Joico reconstucor, washed it out, and Lord behold my hair was red and I didn't lose any length so far π Coconut oil did WONDERS!
I had never used it to bleach with before, but I wish I had. I couldn't believe the damage it saved me from.
Always, always, always using it from now on!
Just goes to show with some care that it is potentially possible to get black out safely.
I hope this helps some of you who might be scared of trying to get it out, I was afraid I'd be stuck with black forever! D:
