Did you get sick of your bleached (blonde) hair? And how fast? And why?

I wanted to be full bleacjed blonde forever. Now that I have been for a good six weeks I am starting to tire of it

Why?

Because I switched from highlights my ends and some under layer will break off and I want to keep my long hair super long. I am very pale blonde but it has a lowlight effect to it. It looks fine but I wanted super bleach blonde and if they do that I will sustain too much damage. It took two tries to even get me relatively blended.

Even with being super careful my hair is so delicate. And I am scared to iron it.

I can't do my own root touch ups and am scared to try.

I may move relatively soon like after I finish school next year and getting hair done so often seems unrealistic.

I sometimes wonder if the bright blonde is "too much"/tacky

Neglecting touch ups can result in awful bands so even though it takes a while for the growth to look bad I have to touch up often.

Maybe I'm feeling like this because it will probably take a long time to get 100% uniform bleached without any remaining highlights or without damaging my hair? I am very picky.

I didn't like my old highlights because the top was too finely woven. I am looking at a more chunky bleach blonde with some darker lowlights and the switch is looking so appealing...

Or am I just a restless color-holic who can't stand keeping it the same for too long?

I do not want to go back to my natural. Def not. But unless they can get my bleach perfect and not damage my hair I may switch it up.

How long did you keep bleach blonde? Did you tire of it? And why? Am I being too finicky?

In my opinion bleach blonde is just like any other bright (i.e. highly visible) colour - it takes serious time effort and commitment to keep it looking nice, otherwise it can look 'tacky' as you say.  In fact blonde is probably harder than brighter colours as it's less forgiving.

It also takes either confidence in your own skills in maintaining it, or serious cash spent at the hairdresser for them to do it.  When I had really blonde hair I was fairly well off financially, so went for the hairdresser option.  It was also a hairdreser I'd spent a couple of years getting used to and trusting, so I was confident she knew what she was doing and wouldn't damage my hair.  It worked, but it took several months (maybe up to a year?) to get it to the blonde I wanted, and then I was having the roots redone every 5-6 weeks.

If I wanted to do it now I'd have to do it myself at home, and I'm not yet convinced I can be bothered (although it's an idea at the back of my head for when I'm bored of the pink).

Having said that - being a restless colour-a-holic is something I sympathise with!  I will probably go through at least 4 different colours this year.  I just can't seem to help myself....!

Anytime I've had blonde hair it hasn't lasted massively long my longest colours that I've ever stayed the same have been red or black and that's only usually a year, even though I actually love it and it's mostly because I'd have to bleach several times to get it all over like you say you do.

I've only ever gone platinum/white twice; the first effort I got to white around October and in December I coloured over it brown, this last time I did it I got to white in August and went brown in December so lasted a bit longer but my roots never matched and I ended up toning down to a yellower shade of blonde. My friend has had white hair for as long as I remember, about 4 years maybe and gets an all over bleach at a salon once a month, no idea how her hair doesn't break off and it always looks amazing.

I am 2 years in on full bleached blonde and I still love it. I use bright semis for highlights and dipdye if I get bored. I have really dark hair, so the nice bright colours wouldn't work on me if I didn't bleach.

I think the most important factor is that I can do my own roots whenever I want to, which is every 4-6 weeks. I only need a couple of hours to fit it in and I am good at it. I never burn my scalp and I know which toners to use to get the colour even. I use coconut oil for pre-bleaching, pre-shampoo and 18 hour overnight treatments, k-pak as a pre-bleach protein booster, all salon quality products (Tigi or Redken), never ever use more than 20vol and my hair is silky soft and bottom-of-ribcage length. It's not low maintenance, but since I can do it myself and I like doing hair it's not an issue for me. Also, I find that toners last forever in my hair so I don't have the problem of it gradually turning brassy as the toner washes out.

It took months to get here though, the ends took 3 full bleaches so I had orangey hair and brassy golden blonde for months, but orange suits me so I didn't mind. Now I'm only doing roots it lifts enough each time, so two years of the growth has only ever been bleached once. The cost is relatively low too, I can buy enough products to use for a year for around the cost of a single hairdresser trip.

My sister on the other hand isn't accurate enough to do her own roots, went to a hairdressers who turned it two shades darker, burned her scalp and now it's sensitive and bleaching is really painful, and of course it was expensive, and since I am not always around to do the roots for her she is going to grow it out to an ombre.

It is a committment, and I do think at some point I will get fed up of doing the roots every month and that's when I'll go back to natural with dark purples or midnight blues on the ends to have some colour in the light.

I just remembered one reason I miss my Natural hair color. I enjoyed having a Perm.  8)  I would have to wait quite some time to have it grow out and get it permed. I have loose natural waves but I miss the feel of the curLies.

I have been going Platinum for 8 years. For the past two years I went Red-Copper in the fall till February.  I think doing my roots gently in 4 sections by sitting between two mirrors, using a precise Wella Bottle and my finger or spatula to gently pat down the bleach is easy. I use coconut oil before I bleach. It makes it easier to comb and part and place the bleach on my hair and see the dark roots. I researched and played with swatches for maybe a year or two before I did my hair and I love it!  Recently however I became obsessed with the bright reds, coppers by loreal. Now that is a hassle because you see the color run down the drain if you don't use the right products. You have to skip shampoos (can't do that during summer playtime).

So for me Bleach blonde with the proper purple shampoo, conditioner, & k-pak everything, Redken protein shampoos and deep conditioning treatments is actually easier than keeping up a permanent color on previously colored or bleached hair.

I love using crazy colors on the ends of my hair during summer and wearing my hair in a bun shows it off too.

Interesting question... I'm not at all sick of the blonde, but I am realising the work in maintenance, bleaching roots and trying to reapply toner, then the toner grabs too much in some areas then I try to remove some of it, etc. Still working on the right routine.

I'm quite happy though not being bleach/platinum blonde, so perhaps that shade or two darker than white is just a bit easier to achieve and maintain.

ive been platinum blonde for the past two years now and im not at all sick of it either, like kababra i also dip dye when i get bored (i also instantly miss my uniform blonde hair 2 weeks after i dip dye and then just fade it out again) and i can do my own roots easily with a cheap box dye so personally maintainence is cheap and only takes a few hours once every 2-3 months.

i think if my hair was the length i wanted it and i had grown out all my layers so my ends were as thick as the midlengths then i might get sick of root touch ups but right now i really like them because its just another reminder that im a inch closer to my length goal than i was last touch up

Back when I had a full fringe + some in bleach blonde I got sick of it after a month, and when I had half my head beyond the fringe in bleach blonde, about 3 months.
Really not my colour πŸ˜›

I started bleaching my hair in Oct 2013 to go pastel, lightening it no earlier than 4 weeks later. I absolutely hated blonde on me but having had it now about 5 months it's definitely grown on me. It might be because it's now a platinum blonde and not a yellow/orange blonde like in October.

I recently tried to go pastel but ended up streaky and after a few days I really wanted my whole head of hair platinum blonde again, never thought I would think like that though. I am meant to be going pastel purple but keep having second thoughts wanting to keep the blonde but I know it will probably be a pain keeping the roots matching because I am just not one to keep on top of my roots very often, most times I leave them over 12 weeks.

I've been blond on and off, the first time (14yrs), I had it for two years then I was introduced to bright colours and have been blond on and off every since. I always go back to blond. The upkeep of blond is tiresome and expensive unless it's on virgin hair.

Whenever I'm happy with the blond I have achieved, a couple of months later, I change it to ginger or red or whatever. I have no idea why, I get to the point where it's boring, but then I'm chilling with whatever colour for a few months and want blond back. I think a good blond is striking.

I'm probably addicted to changing colours! Aha. It's an enjoyable habit, I'm gladly consumed in!

I just love my bleach blonde! Recently I've gotten highlights to make it more dimensional and not just flat bleach. If I feel like changing it up I do an underlayer of my fringe a fun color, or a streak somewhere. I used to do my roots myself, but now I go to someone I trust, it makes me happy knowing that I don't have to worry about overlapping or missing spots.

Doesn't your hair fry when you keep bleaching over it?

Hii, when I was younger I did eventually fry my hair. It was awful underneath the silicones for a few years. I don't bleach my hair length anymore. I cut my hair short which helped alot! I've actually grown out all the previous bad hair πŸ™‚
