Cruelty free toner - any recommendations?

I must be mad but having spent goodness knows how long growing highlights out, I decided I was fighting a losing battle trying to keep on top of the ever increasing greys and went and got highlights put back in last week.

I want to avoid the horrible brassiness I had the last time so the hairdresser said I could top up with a toner - he recommended Shu Uemura stuff but I refuse point blank and straight to buy anything L'Oreal.

Can anyone recommend a toner that isn't tested on animals or isn't owned by a company that tests?  I think he said to get a number 8 toner ( if this means anything to anyone  ::) )

I don't know of any that you need to mix with peroxide, but that's just not really needed.

I know Manic Panic are vegan. Just use a purple and mix a small amount with your usual conditioner. Leave that on for 10-15 mins. If it doesn't tone enough, try leaving it for longer. If it comes out lilac tinged, don't panic  just wash it with shampoo and it will come out. Then just do it for less time next time.

Special Effects, Directions, and Crazy Colour are other brands that don't test on animals. Choose a blue toned purple and dilute heavily in conditioner. Directions Violet dilutes to make a nice blonde toner, they also have a silver.

Fab, thank you.  The hairdresser was talking about toning to a sandy blonde to blend in better with my natural colour but just can't find anything suitable so I'll tone the yellow tones out as you suggest  πŸ™‚

You can mix unnatural colours to create shades of brown and blonde, it is very similar to mixing paint.

Well, there's nothing wrong with that...

But no, you won't. Unless you use green, or blue and yellow. Which you won't be.

Also, if its easier, superdrugs own brand is cruelty free, and I've seen their toners recommended a few times on here πŸ™‚ not sure what toner exactly you're looking for, but they have a few different ones and their cheap, so might be worth a try to see if they work, even if its just to tide you over til you get a better one
