Bleached hair looking awful with a tan?

Do you think bleached out hair looks bad with a tan?

I am naturally very pale and cool toned, but I just got a lobster tan despite sunblock (curse of pale skin)

I am extremely red and leathery. And my hair looks god-awful. Extremely trashy and cheap. When I am pale the color looks fine. But with the red skin it's like every bit of yellow stands out, and the color just looks tacky, and I feel like a washed up Vegas girl.

Does this happen to anyone else when they tan/sunburn?

Umm... maybe it's the red skin that looks tacky and not the hair?

Red skin is never a good look (because it's easy to assume someone has done something stupid, like not use sun lotion, or at least not enough which is normally the case), so I think you're blaming your hair because you're already paranoid about it.

I really wish you'd stop saying how tacky and cheap very blonde/yellow blonde hair is. You've done it quite a few times now in a few different ways.

I've never naturally tanned when I've been blonde/platinum but here's a picture of me when it was blonde and I'd over fake tanned by accident because I couldn't see the colour it was turning till I was AT this wedding haha but I don't think blonde + tanned looks tacky so I'm sure you don't!

Look after your skin, after sun/cold showers etc etc and wait till it eases up to see how you feel about it then, BUT condition your hair because I could be mistaken but I always thought that lighter hair can get drier/more brittle when over exposed to the sun

Sun damages hair. So the affect of the sun on damaged hair will be exaggerated, yes.

Yeah, as a platinum blonde currently, I do find it highly irritating when you keep saying that blonde hair is tacky. If you don't like your blonde hair, then maybe go back natural instead of making insulting comments. I don't post often as I'm a hair model and don't have much control over my hair but I lurk and I do notice these constant remarks.

I want to apologize. I am sorry. I think it looks tacky on me but not on other people. I usually love the color on other people in fact. I did not intend to insult anyone.

Tacky looks tacky, not a specific cut or colour. If you dress like a hooker and/or wear innapropriate make up you will look a little cheap no matter what colour your hair is.
If you look and act classy you can pull off any style. Don't act like a stereotype and people won't pigeonhole or judge you.
I do think certain shades can look bad with certain skin tones though. I am very pale, and anything yellowy looks dreadful on me. So if I am blonde I need to stay on the ash side, as even a hint of gold makes me look ill. Maybe you need to tone your blonde to go with your new skin tone.

WickedPixie, you honestly beat me to it!  I wanted to share my two pence on this thread, something similar... the style bit.

Firstly, I don't feel tacky at all with blonde hair - I love mine!  But I notice you've brought this up a lot, @xo123.  I don't recall seeing any photos of your hair, besides your written descriptions, so if you haven't shared any photos, there's not too much advice others can offer.

But what I do want to say is, it is indeed the entire package that counts.  If you 'feel tacky', it may not necessarily be the hair colour.  For me personally, so many areas of beauty and fashion are very important, such as hairstyle (one that will suit my mood), the right amount of makeup (not too much and not looking to drained out), and choice of clothing and accessories (usually also to match my mood!).

And one other factor that does come into play for me personally and how I view myself is my mood in general - at this moment: am I feeling productive, relaxed and easy-going, comfortable with my surroundings, understood by others, generally happy, or did something happen that bothers me or makes me feel ill at ease?

Mood does unfortunately have a bearing on how I feel about myself, and that can certainly change many times throughout the day, and it does in fact come across to others, including our own reflection in the mirror!

I sort of think it's the other way round. Too much tan can look bad with blonde hair. But then too much tan looks bad full stop.

I am light blonde at the moment and I love it, but if I use a foundation that's too dark or too much blusher etc I look a bit trashy. But then I can get away with much less make up if my hair is a darker colour.

It is defo the additions that make the difference, not just the colour of the hair. Different styles and colours just look nicer on some people and don't look so good on others - it really depends on the whole ensemble.

It is probably just the red in your skin exaggerating the warm tones in the hair, plus I'm sure the sun exposure to your hair may have left it a bit frazzled. I totally know how you feel though, I HATE when I get a sun burn, I feel like I look like an idiot and I do think having a sun burn looks awful on anybody no matter the hair color. I get what you're saying about that you're afraid the burn + blonde hair looks tacky on you, not relating to anyone else, so I really don't think anyone should take offense to that, you're clearly only speaking of yourself in this thread. Even if you do think it looks tacky, it will soon pass and you won't be red anymore. If your hair is dry looking, try doing a deep conditioning treatment on it, and try toning it with a violet semi heavily diluted in conditioner. Having a cooler tone to your hair might make you feel a lot better about it, even when your skin isn't burnt.

I watched part of a movie the other day with Farah Fawcett (however you spell it) in it, bleach blonde hair and it looked like she had lived in the sun with zero protection for a month straight - her face looked so leathery, WAY too tan and red, it looked so terrible and tacky.

But to have a natural sun tan or a fake tan with blonde hair I think looks nice. I don't mean any offense to anyone if they do this, this is just  my personal opinion, but I really don't like when people go tanning 5 days a week and over tan, especially in a tanning bed. I just think of what their skin is going to look like in 10 years, 20 years, etc. I had a really good friend a few years ago that used to tan all the time, she even worked in a tanning salon. She was so pretty and she was only 27, but the 7-10 years of serious tanning had seriously taken a big toll on her skin. When I'd put her liner/shadow on, it was like putting it on a 70 year old and I'm not even exaggerating. She had beautiful features and really could be a model, but her skin was so leathery and so much older looking. I bleached the top part of her hair once and before we toned it when it was a yellow/pale yellow, it looked absolutely terrible with her overly tanned skin, just terrible.

Idk, IMO you can carry yourself in the classiest way possible, have the prettiest features and a great body, but if you have overly tanned, leathery skin, it just looks awful and ruins the entire package.

I'm the opposite - I can get away with blonde if I'm tanned, but it looks terrible (tacky?) if I'm not. But it's all down to skin tone. I'm lucky that I tan easily, but I do have very cool toned skin without a tan (pale, red cheeks etc). A combination of my dad's Mediterranean tones and my mum's very Anglo Saxon ones!)

I think any hair colour (like clothes) needs to suit your natural colouring. We're all different, and what looks good on one person will look dreadful on another.

So I don't agree that blonde / tanned looks tacky - UNLESS it doesn't suit that person's colouring.

And totally agree with Katies comments about overtanning as well. Leathery skin looks baaaaaad.
