OK, So I have done 2 1/2 bleach baths in 2 weeks in the hope of getting my hair light enough to go a pastel colour. I say 2 and a half because the most recent one I didn't go all over, just on the ends that were darker than the top of my me head. I'm not left with a bright/pale yellow on top and orange everywhere else and I just need advice on where to go next. I know I have to have really pale hair for pastel to work but I'm not sure how to go about it without frying my hair. I've looked up so much stuff, I think my brain has overloaded.
I've been using a touch of silver and then realized I needed blue toner to sort out orange :-[ The condition of my hair is ok, the ends are nasty but it is to be expected as I have haven't had a trim in quite some time, nothing to really worry about.
The photos I've included don't really show the the proper colour but I hope I've given enough info.
It looks very orange, were you bleaching over dye? What was your starting colour? To get all the way to light blonde you will either have to keep bleach bathing, or go for a slightly stronger full bleach.
I had a pixie cut a year ago that, I died a dark brown but it was only like 3 inches in length at the time. I'm happy to keep bleach bathing, had already considered it but was worried whether or not it was the right thing to do.
Ah the ends probably have staining from the permanent dye USD before. Try using a colour remover such as colour b4. They're non-damaging, but drying and you can use them up to three times before they've had their full effect. They should help to match up the ends with the roots of your hair. Just make sure to deep condition afterwards to restore moisture 🙂
If there is old dye on the lengths then definitely use a colour remover, it will be difficult to get past the orange tones other wise. You can continue to bleach bath (wait a week after the colour remover) but it will take a long time as they only lift aboyut a shade at a time. What bleach and peroxide did you use and how much shampoo?
I used a cheapy bleach and peroxide (Trulites) and 2 parts shampoo. I didn't think I'd need to strip the colour which I now realize was an error. Altho the amount that is darker is much more than would have have had dye on it originally, I'll add a photo and see if I'm corrected lol
I will also try and take a photo of my hair now in a better light as it isn't as orange as the photos imply, it also seems to have changed since I made the first post. ::)
I just realized you probably need to know the strength of the developer, I used 20% because I wanted to minimize damage.
Just wanted to say I feel your pain. I'm too on a quest for pastel hair from dark. I want to achieve a pastel peach shade. I have tried colourB4 once and it has made a HUGE difference. I also have tried the vitamin c mask once which def lightened too. I will watch your story with interest. I think we need to be prepared that this process may take many many weeks but I'm sure it will be worth it. Good luck
Also I thought bleach baths were meant to remove/fade a previous colour? Or am I getting that wrong?
Post for solidarity - my hair is yellow with some very attractive orange streaks. I did two full bleaches with 30 vol developer (a month apart) from a virgin light brown colour and I am still nowhere close to white. Good luck, I hope you get there faster than I seem to be!

Bleach baths are great for getting out or fading direct dyes, but sulphur based reductive colour removers are better for getting oxidative dyes (ie permanent or demi dyes; box dyes) out. When you bleach out dark permanent dye you get some very unnatural orange tones and usually quite pronounced banding. (If the dye has been applied repeatedly)
Thank you for clearing that up, I only dyed it once so hopefully it won't be too nightmarish to shift.
Sorry me again lol. Which Colour B4 should I go for? I dyed my hair once a year ago but it was dark brown colour, however my hair hasn't been touched since.
Any colour remover will be fine; colour B4, Decolour Remover, JoBaz, Pro:Voke, etc. Just make sure its a remover not a stripper.
