Hi everyone.
I am 26 and am ashamed to say I haven't much experience in hair colouring, and absolutely no idea of what I need in order to lighten my dark brown hair.
I have been reading this thread: http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=995.0 and am I right in thinking that this is the method I need to use?
If not, I was wondering if there are any "ready to go" hair lightening kits that I could buy off of this site?
Sorry, but I'm being honest when I'm saying I am completely and utterly thick about all this stuff. :-[
To give you an idea of what I want, my natural hair colour is a very dark brown and I want to lighten it, in order to get it close to/or dye it to a colour like the Adore "French Cognac."
Thanks. x
French Cognac is fairly light, so you'd either have to do beach baths a few times (no more than once a week) or do a full bleach until it's a pale ginger or yellow.
You can use a bleach kit available here http://www.beeunique.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=128
I would say though, once you've got to grips with it, buying a bottle of peroxide (20 or 30 vol would be best for you, probably 20 as you don't need to get to a light blonde, but it also depends how much red is in your hair) and a tub of bleach powder is much cheaper. In the end it's easier too.
First of all, if your hair has been dyed with any permanent hair dyes, You need to strip the dye out, read about colour removers.
If it hasn't, and your hair is just your natural hair colour, you should opt for low percentage peroxide like 20 vol, and a powder bleach. You can get it off ebay quite cheap, Don't go higher than 20 vol, lighten your hair gradually, and don't forget about deep conditioning your hair in between bleaches. Think of buying joico kpak products, coconut oil, sillicone free conditioners, sulphate free shampoos etc.
Don't bleach your hair more often than once a month. Bleach bath is a good way to go, good luck!
Just to add, full bleach you can do once a month, bleach bath once a week π
