Well then.  I'd like to see who else around here has a penchant for Japanese and Korean fashion, specifically hairstyles?

Personally I've been influenced by both for many years and always love the insane creativity it inspires me to~  Here's some examples if you all aren't familiar....and yes, they're all male.

G-Dragon of Big Bang (Korean pop group)

Hitsugi of Nightmare (Jrock band)

Gackt (Ga-ku-to; Japanese Singer and Megastar)

Seo Taiji (Biggest thing in music to happen to Korea @_@) Mathurine you should like his hair, lol...

D'espairs Ray (Jrock band)

Miyavi (of Due'Le Quartz and now solo)

And more Miyavi (his hair is always genius)

Ruki of The Gazette, Miyavi, and Shou (not sure of his band)

I love to see what the Japanese are doing with their hair, whether it's Jpop or Harajuku or even Ganguro! I'm inspired by many of them. At my age though I can't wear the fashions, which is soooo sad! πŸ™

I'm very influenced by all kinds of Japanese fashion. Do love that crazy J-rock hair! My favourite bands include Versailles, Lacroix Despheres, Zoro and An Cafe, though I'm also partial to heavier bands like D'espa and Mucc.

I personally wear Sweet Lolita, Otome-kei and Fairy-kei on a daily basis, and have pink hair cut with a pointy fringe a la Waka from Danger Gang, but with hime cut sides (from a previous hime cut, I do add, not just for the hell of it).

*giddy*

uaahhhh haha.......awesome.....

no wonder I didn't know Shou's band, I really don't like Alice Nine *shudder*  Thanks though, lol.
My god how could I not have hide, and Dir En Grey?  Haha Diru is my favorite band of all time.  Guess they just haven't been VK lately so it didn't come to mind (crazy hair-wise...)! ^_^  Did you know Kyo just shaved his head?!  @_@  You probably know that.  And Toshiya always has epic cool hair....
My two favorite vocalists are Kyo and Sakurai Atsushi; I should have put a pic of Atsushi up here too......I love when his hair was longer and have done extensions in mine like his white ones (Ai No Wakusei concert style?)~

(....it's not spam.  @_@  do go on.)

Atsushi

D'espairs Ray is another of my favorites, but I guess Hizumi has a throat problem so they're on hiatus??

The hairstyle sounds cool, haha....I used to live in SF and had a great Japanese stylist; she was simply the best.  Unfortunately I am elsewhere now.  T_T So I make do.
Do you cut your own hair?

Indeed. TT_TT I still can't listen to Serenade without crying.

They're on hiatus, yes. I hope he gets better soon! It's such a shame, IMO he's one of the best Viskei vocalists ever!

Thank you! No, I don't cut my own hair. I actually go to my college's student hairdressers to get it done! It's super-cheap and I've found the students often do as good as or even a better job than professionals because they're so careful. Also, they're not scared to do crazy things older hairdressers won't touch (like dye somebody's hair hot pink if they suddenly have the whim to have that done while their fringe is being cut 8D).

Did you know Kyo just shaved his head?!  @_@  You probably know that.

I saw that right after he did it-- my face turned like ">:O!!!"
I miss him parading around with ripped-up fishnets over his head. Those were the days.

Yeah I miss Diru's VK days too, but everyone has to evolve I guess.  Die's hair was always my favorite.  I have to admit, I didn't like their musical direction for a while (starting with 'Marrow') but it's growing on me, and Uroboros was just......Gorgeous.  There's no words to describe how beautiful 'Vinushka' is.  *sniff* Still, top favorite song is Cage.  That bass solo.  Damn.

Hizumi's hair is always wicked cool too.  I hope his throat gets better as well...I'd be heartbroken if they stopped making music.  'Love is Dead' restored my faith in....lots of things haha.  And yeah, he is one of the best vocalists no doubt.  I think they're underrated.  That may sound weird because I know they're very popular, but I think they deserve a lot more credit for the unique style they have as far as Jrock goes.  It's not the typical sound, you know?  It's a lovely blend of the Jrock and western-style music such as industrial.

Guess I skipped a couple more as far as hair and music.....I also like Nightmare a lot (suppose I did have a picture of Hitsugi up....) and Gazette, although their musical style is very hit-or-miss for me.  Haha Reita's hair.....sick~!  I tried a noseband before but it didn't look quite right on me!

My hair right now is kinda Ruki-esque in front but longer in back than his, and silver right now. (^That's not Ruki by the way, it's Reita ^) I'm trying to come up with something crazy to do with it.....any suggestions, fellow Jrock fans?  Or anyone?

*edit* Mathurine, anybody can rock a style at any age!  You with the pink dreads should know that!  ^_^ It just has to be pulled off correctly~  for instance, yeah Loli probably wouldn't look good on someone older than 30 or so, but there is tons of variation, it all depends on how you flaunt it!

You know, Matherine, fashions like Lolita fashion have plenty of options for the more mature wearer. Have you ever considered wearing Classic Lolita, the kind that brands like Victorian Maiden or Mary Magdelene sell? It's a more grown-up and decadent style that is absolutely beautiful and can be toned down to look super-sophisticated.

Because the hairstyles are also fabulous and relevant, I'll post some pictures for you--

ameblo.jp/colorblog is a Japanese Classic Lolita whose outfits are always beautiful and worth a look, if you're interested.

Alternatively, why not look up Otome-kei, Mori-kei or Dolly-kei? They're all pretty, vintage styles that can also be toned down for a more subtle look.

Ah, it's true, they had to move on. And Vinushka really is beautiful!

I completely agree with you! I think it's really sad how some people see Visual-kei music as childish, because D'espa is a great example of how it can actually be really quite sophisticated. I love how they blend their music styles, too-- what really stands out to me is the incredibly seamless blend of rich melody and harsh sounds, like in Angeldust or Masquerade. That's one reason why I think Hizumi is an amazing vocalist-- who else could switch from opera-worthy baritone to powerful growling with such speed and ease?

Oh argh, NOSE SOCK!
I don't care if it's Reita or anyone else doing it, every time I see it I want to pull it off the offending wearer's face, it looks so silly to me! xD Maybe I've just seen one too many bad cosplay?

Your hair sounds great! Hm, I'm not sure what to suggest in terms of crazier things to do with it! You could always try dyeing it bright colours? Maybe a two-toned look, or a split where half the head split along the center part is one colour, and the other half of the head is another? An assymetrically cut fringe?

Yeah, perhaps you have seen too many bad cosplays!!!  @_@  Cosplay is really.....well it can go either way.  I've seen some amazing ones (mostly Japanese and Chinese) that are just crazy.  The other half of the time I just cringe and want to hide my eyes like......why....wouldn't you put more effort into it, and that just looks terrible!
As far as Reita's 'nose sock' *chuckle* I think it only looks cool on him....  I did see the pic where he has it off, lol.  My friend and I used to joke that he must have had a botched plastic surgery job and he covers it like that to hide it!  ^_^V  Not so, however~

Uah, thanks for the suggestions on hair.  I really want to keep it just silver for now, as I've spent an incredible amount of time and effort (and money, %$*&) getting it this way.  I'm thinking more along the lines of an interesting cut.  Something more asymmetrical, like you said, would be good.  I'm just trying to come up with something very unique.  I'd like to keep the length as I've also spent much time in growing it out (shoulder-length).  But yeah, asymmetry is always good.  I'll keep it in mind.

Nice pictures; I'm not usually fond of Lolita style but the more elegant looks are appealing.  H. naoto used to have some incredible fashions of that sort, not sure if they still do.  Every time I try to go on that website I just end up getting frustrated, because the prices are so high and they're always sold out of everything I want!  I like naoto's 'Blood' line or anything like that which is more grungy and dark.

And yeah, I think Jrock gets a bad rep in general.  There are some brilliantly talented musicians among the genre but it kind of gets dismissed due to the over-abundance of bad ones.
One that's really been impressing me lately is lynch.; have you listened to them?  The vocalist is great and their style reminds me of Dir En Grey but less harsh, and kind of 'greener'.  As in, they haven't quite refined their style yet and it still has a new-school feel.

To bring it back to K-pop as well, Korean fashion and hair is completely amazing now.  Well it always has been, really.  In a completely different way from Jrock however.
If you go and look up any of these bands on youtube, their hair and style are sure to inspire....
Big Bang,  U-Kiss, h.o.t., 2NE1, f(x) ~

Reita's hair is badass and I love his noseband lol

agreed.  *chuckles at your 'location'*

I think there isn't necessarily a certain age band members will quit at, but it's more like a maturing and changing type of thing.  I used to dress very flashy and VK but now it's toned down quite a bit (still heavily influenced by though! ^_^).....I'd say that I miss it, but there are appropriate styles for every stage of life that will resonate with your personality.

I'd love it if they did a VK revival but I think it would be weird to see Kyo like that again

I'm not that familiar with Kpop artists or their style of hair but I do love Bi/Rains hair
