Shampoo for bleach baths
« on: 20 Dec 11 / 07:25 PM »
I know bleach bath beginners can sometimes be a bit confused as to what shampoo is best to use in their mixes. I find using a clarifying one is best, and there's a few reasons for this. Firstly, clarifying shampoos can strip out colour, which for me sometimes helps lift the semi permanent colour you're trying to get rid of.And secondly, clarifying shampoos are often clear, which helps me to mix the concoction evenly :)

I've only tried two so far. The first one was this:

I chose this because it was on offer and there was loads of it! It was about 2 for 500ml!
I really liked using it as it was clear etc, but I found that when I was washing it out, it wouldn't stop foaming!! I'd be scrubbing and scrubbing forever before it all came out.

The second I've tried is this:

I bought this today for 99p! Bargain! That's its normal price too for 300ml.
I used half of this bottle for one bleach bath, and this is possibly the lightest my hair has ever gone. I think the results are more down to the fact I've been lightening my hair gradually for a while, and that I used coconut oil for a few hours before applying the bleach bath. (I was also daft and picked up 40vol by mistake :/)
The mix washed out soooo easily!! In fact I was a bit worried about having some left in my hair (even though there wasn't) so I used a bit more of the shampoo to wash it out in the end.

I will be using the boots shampoo for all my future bleach baths as it was soo good! And brilliant value!

What shampoo's do you use?

hmm .. i'll have to check out that boots one >.> adding more coconut to the mix can't be a bad thing! otherwise i use the pantene pro-v clarifying stuff too, was the only "obvious" clarifying shampoo i could find at the time and i desperately did not want to muck it up

i bought it yesterday before i went into work XD i WAS going to buy it on my lunchbreak on thursday, but i was half way through my shop (boots is directly opposite our front door, handy that) saw the line snaking through boots and thought "yeah .. yeah no, my foodtime is way too valuable ." and did an about face back to the canteen.

was going to pre-wash my hair with it for the coconut oil stage, but decided to use the pantene for that as i'm used to it, and i wanted to save the boots one for the bb ^.^ will be trying it today~!

[edit] well that seems to have worked out nicely! certainly didn't seem to make it lift any *less* than the pantene, the smell was less harsh on my nose, and the added coconut oils probably did some good .. my hair didn't seem as dry when i rinsed it out prior to scrubbing it with the kpak shampoo. think i'll be using this for the bb's in future >.>

aww yay thats good then! I like this shampoo the best purely because it washes out easier than pantene.

Thanks for the recommendation. I got the boots coconut shampoo + cond today to do my bleach baths. And i'm not sure if you know they have a deep conditioning hair mask in the same range, its coconut too + was 2.05. Will report back with my findings ;)
I'd rather be hated for who i am, than loved for who i am not!
