DIY hair extansions tutorial!
« on: 22 Jul 12 / 06:31 PM »
Thought I'd show you how I do mine! Buying hair in a big weft is usually cheaper than buying them pre cut.

Step 1:
Buy your weft in a big 3-4 ft weft, this will give you enough for a full head. Wash them with a clarifying shampoo and air dry.

Step 2:
Divide your hair up from the base of your neck to about the middle of your ear, clip the rest up

Step 3:
Measure out a piece of hair that's the same length and double it over for extra thickness, cut the track with some sharp scissors

(ha I added that pic cos its stupid)

Step 4:
Next, half the piece you've just cut (so it fits the part of your hair you just measured) and either stitch it down or glue it. I glued!

Step 5:
Dab a little glue at the end of the track to stop hair shedding

Step 6:
Divide your hair where you want the next piece to sit. Repeat steps 3-5.

This is where I wear the next piece (ignore the roots I have no idea what's goin on the haha!)

...and the next :)

Now your extensions are ready to dye! Follow this tutorial from bluehawk, or watch
this
tutorial I made to see how to dye them.
Then wash and stitch on the clips

 and tadaaaa!!

Leopard print shoes, leopard print scissors...pleaaaaase decorate the glue gun with a leopard print theme and post pics!

Also, I love the tutorial - it's really helpful and I'll see if I can get wefts when I need a new set so I can try it as well :')

they just clip in? Yes

like with them clips you added? Yes :)

dont they just fall out? If you have very straight sleek hair, maybe. But to counteract that I believe you can backcomb a small amount of hair underneath where you want it to go for it to clip to and that holds it. Of course, if they're pulled hard enough they'll come out and unfortunately take a chunk of hair with it probably. I might be wrong, but I think some of the clips have a strip of rubber underneath the teeth which would also help the clips stay in tightly.

Honestly, I've never used them myself (I don't like long hair on me at all), but I've seen a lot of others use them :)

^everything Janineb just said
They'd only slip out if your hair was over conditioned in my experience. If the clips are a decent size for the weight of the extensions, they should stay in place fine :)

PS, Meeshy, I'd never thought to use a glue gun to stick the wefts together, I usually sew mine, do they stay together ok like that?x
