best heat protection styling products??
« on: 16 Jan 12 / 03:17 PM »
I currently use the tresemme heat protection spray and the aussie colour hair protection/shine serum before drying with the hair dryer, then when I straighten my hair I spray each section with lee stafford poker straight heat protection spray. My tresemme and lee stafford sprays have ran out now so was wondering should I try some different products or just buy the same ones again?

Can anyone recommend some good products that are reasonably priced?? Going to the shops on wed whilst I have money to spend on hair products lol.

Thanks!

there is this spray at Walmart, or probably anywhere online:

Very cheap

My friend left it at my house and it works very well! I never use sprays or anything like that in my hair but I'm thinking I need to start doing so.

i never used to use heat protection stuff, my poor hair must have hated me! im going to go to boots/superdrug/bodycare/home bargains today and see what they have in. i want a spray in leave in conditioner too, really want the aussie one but can only get aussie if its on offer somewhere :/

I've tried several different heat protect sprays but in all honesty i keep going back to tresemme because i find it protects my hair and doesnt leave it sticky or greasy. It lasts ages for me too cause i rarely heat style and if i do its only my fringe.

Unfortunately i dont know any leave-ins.

Thanks Kitty, I've used Tresemme for so long, just thought I'd try something new. I may well go back to Tresemme like you too lol.
So, today I bought 2 different products for my hair, one a heat protecting leave in conditioner and the other a frizz serum. (Pic below)

Pure coconut heat protecting leave in conditioner. Only 1.49 in bodycare and sells in superdrug for 2+. I figured since I was after a heat protection and a leave in conditioner I'd try this combo, also, coconut oil :)

Urban Therapy - Twisted Sister, different stroke serum. Only 99p in bodycare! sells at 1.99 in superdrug. I think it's actually for afro style hair, found it in the ethnic hair section, but figured I'd try it anyway!

I'll post a review of them both in the review section once I've used them a few times.

sorry this is off topic. but you *really* need heat protection. even just for blow drying. if you've been straightening your hair upto 5 times aday(i read that in one o your posts somewhere =s) without any protection, im suprised it isn't like hay and falling out

Bit late, but i SWEAR by kerastase products. the Chroma Thermique is a heat protecter that's a lotion rather than a spray, but it's meant to 'last' for 3 washes too so if you don't apply it every time you're okay, and you only use a small amount.
after blow drying (or straightening) i use the Kerastase Elixir Ultimate, which is an oil/serum and it's the BEST THING EVER.
both products are expensive to but last for so long and are so good it's worth it! the elixir is about 25 i think but i bought mine in February and i've still got just over half a bottle left, it's AMAZING!

They sound like great products, maybe when I'm more flush with the cash, or as a gift from somebody one xmas lol.
That's amazing how long it's lasted :o

Yeah I NEVER use heat protecting spray, I'm trying to now but with washing my hair every four days the spray will probably make it look greasy.

I never use sprays or anything like that in my hair but I'm thinking I need to start doing so.

Ugh I know, I feel like I'm just blessed with good nationalities, most of mine the ladies have soft thick hair lol
or I'm just lucky :p

I use cold for blow drying, I only dry my bangs a bit to get them to stay in place (I have to blow dry at an angle) but yeah I make sure it's on the cold setting.

But it's actually pretty soft with flat ironing it (yeah like 5 times a day when I was in high school) Now it's like once a day, I always have to basically tame the waviness..(I shower at night and wake up and flat iron my hair since it's calmer if I shower at night) I've cut back on that, but I think the permanent salon dye is catching up to me. Which is why I'm using loreal hicolor hilights in red and magenta with a 30 developer to make it lighter. Once that fades out I'm assuming it will be light enough to start using special effects so I won't harm my hair every time I dye it :)

It will feel softer with a flat iron because it's smoothing down the cuticles.  That's kind of just masking the problem, really, as the damage is underneath the cuticles.  This is why heat protection spray is important if you regularly heat style, as it helps to protect the hair underneath from damage.  If your hair feels crispy after flat ironing, then your cuticles are fried or melted, which is about the worst damage your hair can possibly have.

I use conditioning sprays regularly and my hair is still fine for a wash every four days.  If it has a greasy week, a little dry shampoo sorts it.  I'm an Aussie fan, because it works for me ... but what works great for some does not work great for everyone.

Laura, hope your coconut spray works as well as Tresemme did for you.

Thanks intemp :D if it doesnt work aswell i'll just switch back to tresemme. They do a volume hair dry spray now with heat protection so might get one of the mini ones and give that a go at some point. Will be interesting to find out if the coconut spray is as good as coconut oil or similar at least, I will be trying it this weekend so will report back :D

I don't know if the frizz serum will be too heavy for my hair, I need something light that controls my slight frizz and wavyness.

eeekittie: there are a lot of heat protection sprays out there you can try, hair definitely needs some protection. I used to straighten mine every day without using anything and just fryed my hair, been using sprays for awhile now. Tresemme is a good one, not too heavy and not sticky, and if you like tresemme shampoo/conditioner I think you'll like the spray :) they do mini ones too if you just wanted to try it out without buying a big bottle :)
