I do it with make-up... Wouldn't have a clue about how to do it with dye!

Edit - I need a darker gel liner, my preferred method because I refuse to go browless and the hairs need taming somehow! Powder works too but doesn't last as well...

Xannie, great idea.  I usually don't bother changing my brown eyebrows but since I'll be entering a costume competition, it would be really helpful if they matched.  I'll try your method and see how it works for me.

Ruthy, can you go into more detail on how you achieve the color of your eyebrows in that picture?

It should never be done with dye.  Ever.  Unless you want to risk blinding yourself.

But yeah, eyeshadow/coloured mascara/gel liner all works for colouring in brows.  I think you can even buy pink and blue brow pencils now :)

If your brows are fairly dark to start with, a little facial bleach (like Jolen) is ok to lighten them (but they will grow back in a week or two).

You're welcome :)

I've also seen people do it with lip liner instead of brow pencils (especially with pinks and purples)

I put up this thread aaages ago, it might be helpful:

http://www.hairdyeforum.com/index.php?topic=475.msg3818#msg3818

If you look down the page you'll see I did a tutorial.

Basically if you want vibrant eyebrows bleach them first with Jolen facial bleach - DO NOT use ordinary hair bleach it's far too strong to use on your face, the fumes could blind you.

After you've bleached your brows you can then use a pencil or mascara to colour. I use a pink eyeliner on mine to match my pinkness. ^_^

When my hair was dark brown or black (which is how I had it for years), I used to take a Q-tip or a clean mascara brush and dip it in the left over dye (after touching up my roots, or with an all over dye), and carefully putting it on my brows making sure to only touch the hair and not the skin, (If you get it on your skin it will stain it and look horrible..learned that the hard way..). And definitely making sure not to get it in my eyes, that would be bad.

I only did this because my natural brows are a lot lighter and looked odd with the dark hair. I dyed it instead of using makeup because I live at the beach and would go swimming all the time. In the winter I would just use a brow powder because I wasn't swimming. and brow powder is basically just a matte eyeshadow, so you could really just use any color that matches, and use a brow brush.

The great thing about having super light blonde hair is I don't have to worry about it anymore! yay!!!

Just be careful if you do that with box dyes as some of them contain peroxide, which under no circumstances should you get near your eyes.

My eyebrow hairs are pretty much black. So when I am wearing make up and I want to tame them, I use mascara to give them a clean look. Once it dries i comb them with an eyebrow brush, but make sure you have a super unclumpy mascara.

Mascara comes in all sorts of colors.

If you can't find a pencil an eyeshadow applied with a good brush will do it too. Just test the eyeshadow on your hand, make sure it's bright enough and dense in colour otherwise it'll come up too pale on your eyebrows. The Body Shop does some good bright colours, they're a tad on the expensive side though.

No problem. It's a trick I learned when I was a "red head" - as in ginger coloured. They do brow pencils for blonde, brown and black but not for ginger so I got some rust coloured eyeshadow and used that with a fine brush.
