Tell me there is a way!!
« on: 03 Dec 16 / 01:37 AM »
So my natural hair is really dark, almost black but no black. I wanted to go really blonde with my dark roots, i wanted a light light blonde but not white and not brassy and not ashy, i know it sounds complicated but i will insert pictures.
So i went to a colorist, we bleached two times one day, and i ended up with a really brassy dirty blonde almost orange that i obviously didn't like, but i took my time to take care of it before going again to the saloon, so after two months i went to the hairdresser and at that point i knew my hair was going to be the color i wanted with just one bleach and little time.
She put some foils and here starts the problem.. she took SO long to put the foils on my sides that at the point she was doing the back part, the front parts already have proccesed 40 min. And when she finished the back she puts the 40 minute timer o_o so parts of my hair literally had bleach for almost two hours in my ALREADY bleached hair (thank god my hair didn't fall out). But the real  problem is that she didn't bleach all my hair that was bleached before(it was really orange) so now my hair has some white and some orange in it and i CAN'T bleach it more because it's too weak after that appointment , and it's impossible to pick up only the orange hairs so overlapping is going to happen.
She didn't toned it with blue or purple dye or shampoo, she did one of those semi permanent dyes on top so i left out the saloon with a mix beetween white/blueish/gray and orange. Now that i have wash it one time after that, it looks really weird (i will insert photos). I live in south america and the only quality toners i will be able to find here are the REDKEN EQ so if you have a toner recipe for me i will cry, literally (happiness obvs).
Here you will see the blonde i want vs the blonde? i have

Condolences on the horrible hairdresser experiense. I think your hair looks like a level 7-8, which can be totally toned to that more ashy blonde, in my opinion. Maybe even try just plain old silver shampoo for a week or two? Note that if your hair is in bad condition with increased porosity it might be unable to hold colour. It could be worth a try to buy a silver or violet based toner, you can make one by diluting a pea size drop in white, non-silicone based conditioner. Good dyes for that are for example Manic Panic Ultra Violet or Pravana Silver. Any blue based violet will do, though. If it doesn't tone, then for the sake of maintaining your hair's health, you might want to put a natural coloured semipermanent that's a bit darker than your current level, on top. Like from Wella Fresh line or form Adore. A "beige" colour. If your hair is too porous already then it might be beyond help.

If all else fails you can soak your hair in coconut oil over hair and buy a demi permanent toner which you can mix with vol 10 developer. It's could possibly work, but it will damage hair, though not wildly.

Remember to treat your hair with protein and moisture! Coconut oil is a good one, use it as a mask over night. Protein treatment, if you don't have any products, can be made from eggs, natural yoghurt, mayo, honey and oils. Even avocado has oil in it, so mush it in your hair. Some people use lemon juice to lighten and tone hair - haven't tried but maybe you could research it.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I agree that you should try purple or silver shampoo, you can leave it on your hair for longer than the instructions say and it will take better. The idea about putting a small amount of a direct dye into some conditioner to use as a toner is also good - do a strand test though, if your hair is very porous (which it probably is after so much processing) then it can be hard to predict how strong the colour will show and whether it will last at all.

Personally I would not advise using a toner or demi-permanent dye or anything that uses a developer on your hair if it already feels weak. I also would not advise that you put lemon juice on it, lemon juice can lighten your hair (but not really tone) and it is fine on virgin hair or hair that isn't damaged but anything that lightens your hair further at this point could cause further damage to the point where it could start to break off.

If it makes you feel better, I don't think your current colour looks too bad, if you can manage to keep it toned it won't be far from the type of colour you want. (to me it looks like the photo is of someone who's natural colour is probably a lighter ash brown so you may just have too much natural red in your hair for it to ever lighten exactly that way).

My hair is not bad, i have to say it feels pretty good to be THAT bleached, yesterday i washed with a kerastase shampoo and a kerastase deep conditioning mask. I have a silver shampoo, i was planning on using it more minutes to tone the orangey parts but i'm scared the white parts turn purple or blue bc the extra minutes :(

Remember it can take up to a month for damage to show in your hair, and it can be masked if you use any products that contain sillicones making it appear healthier than it actually is, so be careful making any decisions based on the condition! I only mentioned your hair being weak as it was something you mentioned in your earlier post!

YESS i know, my hair is obviously really, really damaged, i was just saying it feels nice at least after washing it, and is not falling out right for now. you are right, i'm not doing any semi permanent or toning (i would just do redken shades eq because is really gentle) it would be a waste of money because my hair has high porosity. i will try the silver shampoo or conditioner but like i said.. i'm scared it will turn my white hairs purple.. or leave me with a dull color (i want it bright).

The 'processing solution' for the Redken Shades EQ is Hydrogen Peroxide (Developer) it is just the same as using a demi permanent - the claims that it is gentle relate to it having no ammonia.

I don't really know what to suggest for you; if you feel your hair is too damaged to lighten the darker areas further (and I would tend to agree with you on this!) then the only thing you can really do is tone, and because your base is uneven you will most likely end up with the darker bits being under-toned or the lighter bits over-toned.

I learnt from hard experience many years ago (having to cut almost waist-length hair to a short bob due to damage from trying to get it perfectly white blonde) that sometimes it is better to live with something slightly less than perfect than to push it too far and have no other option!
