Silicone-free products for short, fine, wavy hair
« on: 29 Oct 15 / 01:51 AM »
Hi all. Got my hair cut a couple of weeks ago and I *love* how versatile the cut is for me. [EDIT: Actually got round to going on a computer, so here you go!
Some bits can be tied up if needs be for my current job (or I can wear it in a generic corporate-friendly bob), but I find I need product for some styles.

I inherited Tigi Bed Head Manipulator from my mum and it's the only product I currently use. I love how lightweight and flexible it is (plus it usually comes out easily), but my scalp's been itchy and flaky for a day or two.
I think it's just that I didn't wash my hair properly and/or overused the stuff, but I don't know.
I noticed that BHM contains dimethicone of some description, and my body hates that stuff for the main part.
Any recommendations for

*Heat protection
*Serum (?)
*Gel/wax/putty
*Straightening stuff
*Oil/mask ?
*Any other kind of styling product in general

It needs to be suitable for wavy hair where each strand is apparently fine but I have been told in the past that it looks thick because there are a lot of strands.

Thanks!

I doubt you'll find a silicone-free heat protectant as it's the silicone that's the integral ingredient in them.

For oils, buy pure food-grade oils, 'virgin' coconut oil is great, argan oil the gold standard but expensive. Avoid any oils marketed for hair such as Moroccan Oil as they're absolute junk watered down with silicones and dirt-cheap mineral oil. Use oils as you would a serum, smooth a droplet in your hands and run through your ends, and as a pre-wash treatment.

Other products I'm afraid I have no idea about, sorry!

Thanks for the reply!

Quite shocked about heat protectants using silicone as a vital ingredient though... isn't that kind of sneaky?

Not really sneaky... The ingredients are there on the back of the bottle and the build-up of silicone *does* shield the hair strand from heat damage. What is sneaky is a heat protectant claiming to be 'all-natural' such as Organic Heat Pro which doesn't disclose its full list of ingredients ::) There's a *cone in there somewhere!
